Hi all, just joined and thought I would introduce myself before I start posting in any of the boards.

I'm a 40 year old woman (going on 12 sometimes! lol!) and have always been interested in photography from a very young age, though it's only in the past few years that I discovered SLR cameras and in the past 8 months started using digital as opposed to film. I am disabled so don't work and am on benefits so digital really is fantastic for me, no more costly films and processing.

Already I am on my second digital camera, had a canon a70 which I was very dissatisfied with and sold it, changed to a minolta dimage Z1, which also has it's downsides as doees any camera but the image quality in my opinion is superior to that of the a70 and I am so far very happy with it. It's only a stop gap camera for about a year til I can get myself a nice DSLR, then I will be in my element! lol!

My other hobbies include keeping rabbits, they live in my house, free range, uncaged and are litter trained, they are more than just pets, they are a hobby as contrary to popular belief, these little creatures are quite hard work. I also have a cross breed dog who is about 9 this year. My other main hobby (which I haven't done in some time for various reasons) is art, using watercolour pencils (dry) for animal and people portraiture. The idea is to combine my art and photography together, though I do enjoy the photography more these days, it gets me out of the house, I get a little gentle excercise walking as I don't have transport and I get to see lots of beautiful things on my "travels".

Just now, I am begining to get excited about things, never knew photography could be this much fun, even though I have always enjoyed it. Something has come alive in me that was either not there or supressed and I'm so glad I've found it. Things that woulnd't have interested me in the past, I am now taking interest in for photographic purposes. It's great.

I have also done some paid work, not much, a wedding and family portraiture, this was with my 35mm SLR though, not sure I would have enough confidence with my digital as yet because of the well known purple fringing that can occur in some situations and until I can learn the best way around this, I won't even consider anything.

By no means am I a professional, strictly amateur and I think that's the way I would like it to stay, give or take the occasional paid job I might be offered (or not as the case may be! Lol!)

That's enough about me, I look forward to joining in with discussions and hopefully some of the challenges and of course, sharing some of my work with you and last but not least, looking at work from all of you, I find looking at others pictures can be really helpful sometimes.

Bye for now
Alison

Welcome to the site Alison :) I predict you'll be spending a lot of time here once you start entering challenges, hehe :) Thanks for the introduction to yourself too. It must be great to be able to draw as well as take photos. I can only do photos because drawing requires more patience and I have none of that (not to mention no talent! lol)

Hope you enjoy yourself here :)

Hi Alison :o) You will be addicted to this site in no time! My grandmother has a rabbit in the house, her name is Joy. She is also litter trained and loves to eat peanuts. My grandfather on the other hand raises caged rabbits for slaughter, he has over a thousand... poor bunnies :( I look forward to seeing some of your work and welcome to DPC!

Thank you for the warm welcome, I will read up how to post pics and put some up in the next few days.

I've not got any of my artwork on line as I don't have a scanner but at some point in the future, I am sure I will invest in one.

You can have a look at some of my snapshots at //community.webshots.com/user/alibunnylady

Most of those shots were taken with my A70, in fact, I think all of them were. I don't think I've put any of my Z1 shots online as yet, certainly not on my webshots page. People can download them to their pc's and although my work isn't perfect by any means, I decided that I want to keep it as mine and mine alone from now on, unless it's sharing within a forum such as this one if that makes any sense.
