Confused which do you folks recommend ?

Mini or not ?

And is the latest number 4 the best ?

Will be used for surfing, emailing,a few images, out and about.

Any help would be useful.

Bigger is better. If you want something small, get an iPod.

To me the iPad mini seems like it's still to big to be portable, but also too small to be as impressive as the full size iPad

Thinking off the cuff, I'd say get the full size iPad (I think iPad4 is the current model w retina display.) I'm guessing if you're traveling with it, you would be carrying it in a messenger bag of some sort.

Women that I know who have an iPad prefer the mini for its size. It's easier to throw in their purse.

If you can wait another couple months, the newer iPad should be coming out...

Bottom line for me would be to get whatever is the latest version full size iPad.

When I was in the process of buying a tablet, I tried a 7 inch model. Because of my eyesight, I found it too small. Since you, of course, are 2, your eyesight should be fine, and the iPad mini should be a lot more manageable for you. Speed, quality of display all say retina display. I'd go with an earlier version only if money was a critical factor. Also, if you don't have heartburn about refurb electronics, Apple.com sells refurb iPads (with the "new unit" warranty) for roughly $80 less than new retail.

I have a droid tablet identical in size to the ipad mini and it's a great size.... but it depends a lot on usage so no single answer. I found the size of a ipad too big for my use whereas if your just at home or showing photos to a prospective client then they are the only way to go. If you are just doing email/browse the web stuff then the lower res is fine but if your displaying images to clients then go for the latest retna display model. I love the ipod as well.... but not a great thing to read stuff or display pictures :-) Sounds like an apple commercial, so let me add I FAR FAR prefer the droid for updates & installs and a lot of UI pieces over the locked down apple stuff (plus you have to use that itunes crap).

Personally, I hate the full size tablets and like the smaller sizes, and I have crappy eyes.
