I may have the chance of buying a second hand 10D off a friend who is going for the new 20D, about 2 yrs old in excellent condition, body only, what price do you reckon ? (UK)

Thanks.

How many frames has it taken?

Check on Ebay for prices - probably the best idea..

Between 800-1000 pound it what I found from a quick google search. Not too far from the mark in my opinion... Say 900 for a good price.

Ebay prices are inflated.. A mate of mine just sold a second hand 300D on Ebay for AUD$1475.00 (US$1020.00) body and kit lens.

I think that depends very much on location, especially when translating currency. In the UK it's likely to be more reasonable I'd imagine.

Wow! seems to hold it's price doesn't it, thanks guys.

Edit: He has actually just said whatever his dealer offers him trade, I can have it for the same price, is that good news?

theres a lot of 2ndhand 10d's going in the local classifieds paper here in dublin for between 1100 and 1500 euros.(£680 - 1020)

//www.buyandsell.ie

I'd say offer him £750 but go no higher than £900.

I would say so since the dealer will give him a lower price than he would receive through a private sale since the camera shop has to make a profit when they turn around to sell the camera.

Update,
The dealer has offered him £650, so that is the price I can get it for.
Any thoughts, body only remember,
& how much am I going to pay for a "starter" lens ?

Go for it - great value at that price.

£80 - Canon 50mm/1.8
£160-300 - Sigma/Canon 75-300mm.

Those would get you started if you don't want any expensive glass.

Well that would be:

"But it's suuuuch good value.. I'll NEVER get such a good deal again.. And I've been getting REALLY good scores on DPC lately, so it'll be worth having...."

How much do you have to spend on lenses?

Hi Paul,
Good question, not a lot at the moment, I've only just convinced my good lady to let me get the camera, so around £100 for starters, unless I get a good price for my fuji then I can rethink it. I remember years ago having a couple of Tamron zooms on my slr and they were quite good, so that is an option for cheaper glass I suppose.

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di- about $360 US or Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM- about $229 US. If you can't afford one of those, then the 50mm f/1.8 is your best bet.

Thanks, but what about the ones on the auction site below ?

My 75-300 IS USM is on Ebay right now ;)

This is something you must have! but worth a mail to the seller as its advertised as a 50mm f/1.8 MK1 but the box looks like it is for a MKII

I got no reply from the seller so I didn't bid.
Can anyone tell me, can I expect a similar quality from the standard canon 1.8 MK11 as I am getting from my fuji 602 ?
If I buy the 10D it will be a while before I can get better glass.

Any suggestions other than the 1.8 if I stretch it to £200 ?

The 50/1.8 is a VERY high quality lens. It may not have great range, but you'll be able to crop images smaller than the frame and still have great results.

Give me a minute, I'll take a sample shot........

Cropped 1:1:

Shot on ISO 200, 1/200" shutter at f/4.0 with 420EX flash to compensate for the dark, rainy day..

Edit: Changed pics to one using flash..
