It would seem that many of the voting members have some Pretty High standards for imagery lately. Perhaps we should all strive to show them that it's not just a glitzy photo that is worth taking or sharing here, and have them realize that digitally created art (such as those that ribbon in the expert challenges) are not the same thing that one can expect to outside of the Expert ruleset, and that the type of editing allowed should definitely play a part in how the image is perceived, if that is indeed a standard being used for other images on the site.
I'm not necessarily aiming this at longstanding members (though, if the shoe fits....), nor am I saying that new members cannot tell what is a Good photo without being here for years, but given the world we live in, many people expect certain things from retouched/edited images, and that is not always either appropriate for the image, nor is it even allowed in anything except Expert rulesets.

So, I would like to put out this open letter to voters to up their own game. Don't be lazy in voting, comment why you technically, aesthetically or fundamanetally (dis)like (parts of) an image, and have the guts to own up to your vote.

There have been polarizing members of the community who have voted low, and defended their votes openly, that's fine. Love them or hate them, you knew where you stood and why; the same goes for obsessive high-voters (though nobody ever complains about a random 10 score on an image that averages a 3.xx, but it's no different), if you like something that people seem to view as the bottom of the pile - say why, even if it just is that it struck you in the right mood to find it appealing.

Now, i'm not saying that everybody has to vote and comment on every entry in every challenge (though it would be great if we all had such free time and inclination to do so), because i would be a hipocrite if i advocated that; instead, when you Do vote, make sure that what you're voting is something you feel you could stand up to and justify; and then leave a note for the photographer in the comments (politely) so that they can get some feedback and not just lash out at all of the "trolls" lurking about.
