I'm a bit behind. I headed out on vacation on 1/23 to Oahu Hawaii, had a great time, and took 1500 photos (most aren't worthy of space on the memory card) Swung by Los Angeles to visit family on the way home, and took a bunch more photos! I arrived back home last Tuesday and immediately got slammed with a bunch of overtime at work... so much for the restful and relaxing vacation.
I'm going to post a couple of entries that aren't my declared subject matter of Beautiful Del Norte County, but I'm guessing people won't mind.
Week 4: Oahu emerging from the clouds as we arrived by plane.

Week 8
Cleaning up my laptop because its really overloaded, sooo I found this gem
This was right before winter!
We only see Pelicans 2x a year for when they migrate. One of our local nature lands holds it as their breeding grounds, really fun when you can see 100 at a time
This one I caught in flight, one of my goals, to capture one eating a fish

Hi gang. I've fallen behind, not because of the Mardi Gras
revelry but due to a nasty viral bronchitis. Anyway, doing better now and
have picked up the camera to take a shot of my hat and beads that I hope
to be wearing next year on the parade route. :)

Took a ton of photos this week! I'm frustrated with my post processing skills, but hopefully I'm learning by doing these weekly images.
This week we have two sunset related images.
Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City CA. The lighthouse becomes completely surrounded by the ocean at anything but low tide. They offer interesting tours of the lighthouse, but check the tide tables or you will have to run for dry land if you didn't plan appropriately. This lighthouse was inhabited until after WWII, hard to believe that people raised children in such a tough environment.
A different take on last night's sunset. We have been blessed with an unusual number of stunning sunsets so far this calendar year. Usually we are dealing with rain and fog in Jan and Feb.
Any suggestions for different composition or post processing are greatly appreciated. |

Week 9:
I wanted a longer exposure to smooth the water and a quicker exposure to capture the ducks, this is a compromise.

February, Week 4
Long story short - had a contact Thursday asking if I had any photos taken on Farnam Street here. Inquiry came from one of those consulting firms that had a client who wanted to decorate a conference room with photos from that locale. I didn't. So . . . Friday was nice here and husband and I decided to go out. Lots of stops and a lovely lunch (except that our waiter forgot about us - literally! - for about 20 minutes) later, I had some. Worked all weekend to process the ones I thought might work. Now I'm hoping to make a sale or two :) This one took forever to edit, but I'm happy to have it in my portfolio.
RE-did sky and upped contrast.

Wow, that is much improved! Thank you for your edits and the screen prints of how you did them! I have been working at post processing skills, watching videos and toiling away in Lightroom. I think it is time to jump into Photoshop as I can't do what I want w/ Lightroom. I also tried NIK and Topaz, for their free trial period, but really only frustrated myself, as each software package seems to require hours of practice before you get any usable benefit. As usual, too many interests and not enough hours to pursue them all!
