You mean poses or lighting techniques? |

I would say that the poses would depend on how far along she is. I can think of some good ones if she's in the last trimester. More info please...:) |

I think he is talking about birth photos. Is that right? doctornick may have a better insight than most of us. But remember if this is the first birth you have seen then you won't remember anything you have learnt :)

If I were you I would do a google search for professional maternity photograhers and review the images they publish for ideas.
Not to suggest that these are great, but you can look here to see maternity images I have taken for two couples:
Sarit and Doug:

Aimee and Troy:

The last one links to two galleries. One gallery contains indoor images and the other contains outdoor images.

For a DPC member this may sound out of this world, but if the original question really was about taking pictures at the birth of your child, may best advice is: don't do it.
If you are present at the childbirth as the father-to-be, your position is just that, next to your wife-mother-to-be. If at the same time you are busy in your mind with taking pictures, you lose some of the best experiences that you can have.
No harm in having a camera in your coat somewhere, that a willing docter may use after the feat. |

Just wanted to point out that the original post is over 5 months old now...not that the information won't be helpful to others. |
