I just got a Sigma 70-300 macro super 2 (on a 300D) . I notice that when I zoom in to 200 or more it gets hard to turn at 200. Is this normal? I would think it would be smooth the whole zoom range.
This lens has a macro switch which locks the zoom( in the 200-300 range). This is happening when the camera is not in macro of course. It also seems to be worse in AF then M ????????????

Doesn't sound normal to me. Especially if it is new it should turn smoothly, or at least consistently, throughout it's full zoom range. Perhaps the zoom lock is not fully disengaging when the switch is turned off. Read the manual fully to be sure you are operating it correctly. If you can't get it to work properly take it to a professional at a camera shop and ask them to check to see if there is something wrong. |

I think its a design fault... or a bad batch of lenses as I and others have had this problem. Just as you reach the 200 point it stiffens up.
Having said that, you get what you pay for! I chose this lense as part of a "kit" deal as I wanted to experiment with a longer zoom and the macro for wildlife but as its only a purely hobiest side and I had no idea of how much use it would get I didnt want to invest in a more expensive lens.
Considering its price point and zoom range its "not bad," but I would not recomend it to anyone who was going to get a lot of useage out of a lens of a similar zoom range.

My 70-300 sm2 seems pretty smooth throughout the range.
Take it back and try another one.
