It's the final vote for the themed competition the BBC has been running.

What do you think of the finalists?

They don't look so bad now, but I was wondering the sanity of whoever was choosing the photos when voting on each individual round.

That's exactly what I thought! I do think the gate with leaves shot has no place in the list though - very poor and washed out in my view.

They all need to be made bigger - how Small do the BBC want to show them.

Well, one of them will indeed be the BBC photographer of the year ...

But, I ask you .....

Will she/he have ever managed to win a DPC blue ribbon?

I doubt it!!!

Mwwwwhhhhhaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!! (or however you spell that evil laugh thing)

Yup - the size of those shots was a joke. Totally impossible to see the full merits in the shots - and it seemed like a very half-hearted effort to me (prize is only £400 though!).

The leaves shot just lacks gravitas in my view, whereas all the others have a degree of design, artistic consideration or an intriguing subject.

Edit: Natator, I reckon DPC would have given them a run for their money. ; )

I personlly think - comparing to this sie - these pictures arn't from the photographers of the year I think the best photographers are on this site and they keep amazing us week after week

I like the snow one the best though :)

I suspect a lot of us from DPC (like me) were entering this competition, and wondering just how some of the final shots got through. Without wanting to say anything to that effect though, because it sounds bad. Ooops.

I entered one theme of their competition, Shapes and Colors, sent around 5 entries and not one made it to the 10 that were considered for voting. Looking at those who made it to the top 10, I guess my shots were not that far. Well,I didn't find time to join the other themes.

This is me ....sourgraping.

I thought that the finalists were very good. A different taste from what works here, maybe, but on the whole some very good photographs.

no 5 evokes the most emotion for me

Like I said, the finalists are good. Many of the photos that were chosen to go through in each round weren't. At least the public knows a good picture when they see one!

I've been following Angela M. Ferreira who took the Indian Dreamer photo for awhile now and love her stuff. She posts fairly frequently here and I'd urge people to check out her photos. Her photo is one of my favorites in the contest but I think that's because I've seen a much bigger version.

Wow, her stuff is absolutely incredible!

JohnM - you'll be gutted to see that this shot must have just pipped the leaves to the post!

MK, Angela's work is great - very inspirational and such depth to the images.

It's a whole different field of photography, so comparisons don't do anybody justice. I really hope to see more breadth here over the next while...I think we might get it, based on some of the new photographers here.

Edit: yeah, yeah i know...who the hell do I think I am?

I absolutely loved that shot and was trying to vote for it, but for some reason I kept getting an error screen. It is really amazing.

I afraid I have to agree. To tell the truth I don't think any of them are that good, well, maybe 2 of them were ok. I have seen much better here. If these are the best out of 1000's of photos then I wonder what the others looked like!

Me too. I voted for it. Can't believe 'Squabbling Terns' won. It was probably in my bottom 3. Didn't care for that one at all.
