I learned this song at school, even in the Netherlands. It is a canon song. |

Well that's funny...I was born in the Netherlands (Amsterdam) but learned that song at school as a child in South Africa. My parents emigrated to South Africa when I was 4 years old...hahhahar haharhahahaha |

I'd long forgotten it, but I remember learning that song at school too.
I love the way they share their food in this video:

When I was a kid, the song's lyrics were:
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra,
Gay your life must be!
A West coast US guy, an East coast US guy, two folks from South Africa, and a lady from the Netherlands all learned this song about an Australian bird in primary school.
How cool is that???
Roz, you don't count. It's a law that you Ozzies learn it as kids! LOL!

The Australian song we learned as kids was "Waltzing Matilda" ... but of course they didn't teach us what it meant ... ;-) |

even tho i dont count ..
i have come to the rescue .. lol .. ;)
The title was Australian slang for travelling on foot (waltzing) with one's belongings in a "matilda" (swag) slung over one's back. ... The song narrates the story of an itinerant worker, or "swagman", making a drink of billy tea at a bush camp and capturing a stray jumbuck (sheep) to eat.
oh btw .. i do count .. more than i should ..
the votes ppl give me on my challenge entries .. ;) .. Ha ha hahahahahahh .. |

Well thank you, though since elementary school I've heard a rather more X-rated interpretation of the phrase ... ;-) |

My apologies.
