I don't get it. It's not a diptych, so is it one or the other, or are we supposed to come up with a single image that shows both good/bad news...?

Could do something that's good and bad at the same time... like a pregnancy test? Either positive or negative result could be good and bad at the same time.

bad news: coming in last; good news: winning the brown.

we might then just call it The Brown Challenge.

Good news: I have a great new camera. Bad news: I have no idea what to shoot for the Good News/Bad News challenge

I'm glad somebody asked. Because I had the same problem. I had no idea and still have no idea how to depict both when it's not a diptych.

The way it seemed to me, you can photograph something BAD, like say a kid with a black eye, and caption it something like: "Yeah, but you shoulda' seen the other guy!" OR something GOOD, with a bad news rider for a caption, OR something that in and of itself is both good and bad news. Not an easy challenge, but those were what occurred to me.

It does not seem to me we're restricted to depicting both in the same shot...

That's a good take on it. I figured that works work, but I wasn't coming up with examples that did work. But you've proven they exist!

Now can I go give Jeff a black eye, or would that be rude to steal your idea. :-P
