I am looking for a good Backpack Camera Bag that can hold my pentax k1000 and three or four lenses. I would like it to be waterproof and under $100 if at all posable. Can someone please help me? |

Umm... I'm no expert but waterproof and "under $100" usually don't walk hand in hand. I have yet to find one.
The best that I could do was the Tamrac Expedition 5 which runs roughly $136US in these parts.

I have owned the Tamrac Expedition 5 which is great. I also have a LowePro bag which I like very much. It has a rain cover that folds out over the bag.
Beagleboy is right, under a 100 is going to be tough to find.

The Delsey Pro 31 will run near 113.95 US at Audorama and the Delsey Pro 33 runs around 154 US. These are absolutely high end professional camera backpacks. Materials, zippers, dividers, straps, weather protection, etc. Visit Bogen's site and review for yourself.

Buying a 'waterproof' bag can get tricky sometimes. I have a Tamrac Expedition 7 backpack and it is only water resistante. The Lowepro AW bags do have the pull-out covers that are much better for bad weather.
I carry about 8 or 10 large ziploc bags in one of the pockets of my backpack. If I ever get into a situation where my gear could get wet, I pull out my ziploc bags and put my lenses and camera body in them and put them back in the bag.

Not to be a thread hog, but anyone have any opinions on the Tamrac Expedition 4? I would get the Expedition 3 but my Canon 100-400 L IS wouldnt quite fit. I have the Lowepro Computrekker and it is HUGE, which is fine for airtravel but i'm looking for something for daytrips and the like that will fit my DR, the 100-400, a Sigma 24-135 and a Canon 10-22.

The delsay Pro is a great bag, especially if you need to carry a laptop also. But the bag is no where close to being water proof. It has a built-in rain cover that is somewhat water resistant, but I wouldn't want to trust it for any length of time in a down pour. I would suggest the dry zone 100, although it is a little more than your budget, it is truly water proof. At most major retailers it sells for a little over $200 it can be had on e-bay for $130-150 from reputable sellers. Good luck & stay dry.

why dont you just keep a poncho or two in your backpack and stick it over the whole bag when it begins to rain?

I bought the backpack to use when I ride my motorcycle and need to carry all my gear. When I'm not on the motorcycle, I have a LowePro Commercial AW shoulder bag that I use. Ponchos don't work well on a motorcycle :)

I typically carry a dry bag (like for canoeing) in my saddle bag for times when the camear gera is strapped on.

I have a crumpler and I love it! Very strong and even a bit stylish. Check out the Crumpler Website
There are also five Crumpler backpacks on Ebay that range currently $120us and lower.
I really think you should be impressed with the quality of these bags; as I said I love mine. |
