I took photos of the long term residents for the local Humane Society. I want to use the same photos and make Valentine's out of them. But they have blue backgrounds. I want to change the background to red, but I can't just change the background, because it reflects on parts of the dog.

The Point Color tool in photoshop Beta is amazing and will do incredible fine color adjustments, but I can't figure out how to just switch to a completely different color.

Here is the photo on which I'm working. Could you please help me figure out what to do?

Thanks!

When I've had such halos, I clone slowly and carefully with a small and soft edged brush.

There is a YouTube channel called PixImperfect - he has a zillion excellent tutorials on color changing, working with hair & fur, etc.

This was just color shifting, then cleaning up the edges with a "hair" brush (it's actually a grass brush I use for hair) and a little blurring when I get impatient.

I used a hue and saturation layer and took both the blue and the cyan down to 0. That still left some problems around the edges, but it might have worked better on a higher res file? On the 2nd one, I did kind of what Art suggested, kind of what Yo_Spiff suggested around the head and back on the right side a bit. But I prefer the healing brush set to replace to the clone tool. I've never heard of or tried a "grass brush" but I'm intrigued.

I also thought that bringing down the saturation in the blues and cyan's would work but it didn't. Which surprised me. Somebody else talked about brushes someplace else too. I need to look into that

I have at least 9 more to do! (although I still see the tiniest bit of blue around the edge. :P )

Do you really think anyone who receives/sees one of these will notice?

I would. ...but I wouldn't say anything. ;-)

TBH, it's likely you wouldn't be able to see it on a 6x9 or 5x7 printed card.

They won't be printed - only used for social. But since I'm doing it, I really don't want them to look lousy.
