Longtime mediocre member. I just renewed my membership for my 20th year. I have learned a lot from this site. I have made some friends.
I don't always agree with the scores but...photography is so subjective. I don't style my entries for what I think will score well. I style them for what I like.
I can't imagine not having a place like DP to touch down, catch-up, enter some challenges, gather some education and just be part of a greater, diverse community.
Thanks for being here and having me for all these years.
~Tammy
*edited for spelling and to add a few pics.
i have come a long way from this: to this:

I agree it's been a great place to learn and play. I was on a couple of other contest sites prior to DPC, but they weren't exactly what I was looking for. Then I found mention of this site in a discussion on one of the others. Was exactly what I wanted and I've been playing here since late '07.
Despite everyone complaining of the smaller numbers lately, I think DPC staying relatively small is what is best and unique about it. It is run by and for the members, not a commercial entity for someone to earn a profit from. Well worth the $25 per year. |

I've become fascinated with lighthouses in the last couple of years. Spotted this one in your portfolio. Seems most of the "spark plug" style lighthouses are in the northeast. I may have to make a trip sometime.
Is this also the site of an old fort? Looks like there may have been some canons in that wall at some time.

Yes! It was an old fort. Now the site of a community college that has been built and integrated into. Unfortunately, it was severely damaged in one of our storm and is currently being repaired and restored. |

Drug this out of the archives to say, I renewed my membership. I am still here. I don't enter a lot of challenges, but DP is part of who I am as a photographer. I appreciate the community and the support. |

I registered 2 weeks after you Tammy! And I'm also still here, still enjoying it. The hard part is to enter a challenge named "xyz XII" without repeating yourself. That's a real chellenge )) |

The really sad one is "Self Portrait XII" Getting older is no fun and seeing it happen on DPC is even worse!!!! |

That's good to hear, Tammy!
You have come a long way, as you said.
I like to think that I have, too. DPC has changed my life. |

I registered in 2002. The earliest entry ( not a Self Portrait challenge) I was a subject in was in 2003! No grey hair then!

Oops, sorry, I saw 2015 but that seems to be a date of a name change. You actually registered a month before I did.
Here is my self portrait of 2004

Almost 23 years have passed since I first participated here. It brought me photography knowledge and skill, a lot of friends around the world, a couple of BFF's and via the BFF's even my wife who I am still with 18 years later. Also great memories from the Europe and Amsterdam GTG's. I could argue about how the design and process has not changed, but everytime I visit DPC it feels like home. My new camera will arrive tomorrow (X100 VI) -sold my Nikon kit in 2016-, thinking about subscribing again and have some fun here.
This is from 2005, entered just to show my face for the people on the dpc chat (it is rather crap):
