I just came across this artist on IG that has short videos that look like live photographs. No sure how to describe them. I find them fascinating.

They are very evocative, yes. If I understand correctly, from a technical POV they are just very short video captures? Or am I missing something?

Yep. Same here. My wife uses this feature on her iPhone all the time. |

Very artistic, very well composed scenes. To me these are video cut scenes, he could assemble them into short movies that tell the story better than still images could. |

I use it and Portrait mode almost exclusively. I entered an image after a 8 year hiatus and it was disqualified because I wasn't able to find the exact frame (live usually uses 6-8 which are changeable within each frame). I was going to enter the Extended Free Study but realized I might go through that again, and pulled it. (sigh) I understand rules and everything, but the digital world is ever changing. I guess I'll stick to my Instagram portfolio. |

I don't use Instagram, do they have photo contests there also? |

It's worth noting that the Live Photo mode combines, in-camera, at least two frames to create a composite. This has never been legal in DPC except in Extended Editing challenges.
SC are aware the digital world is changing and we've done our best to keep up with it whilst embracing stuff we didn't used to be able to do. We want to incorporate new (and common) in-camera effects into the rules, but the bottom line is this will only work for us if the out-of-camera result is a single JPG that matches the entered image in terms of composition etc. Clearly this is a problem right now :-(

I don't have this problem, though. When I send the photo to my PC, it sends one frame. That's the frame I use, and that qualifies as the original. |

We'd love for there to be a way to validate these consistent with our rules; DM sent for more info.

I had a hard time uploading it to my PC. Plus it took forever because it wanted to see all of the photos, and I couldn't just pick one.
