I have to say I disagree. My phone IS my camera now, I rarely use another camera except when I'm flying the drone, which also IS a camera. So my camera is always with me, it's very unobtrusive, and the image quality is fantastic. |

Good for you Robert and I understand fully as a while back in some other post you explained why you prefer to use your smartphone these days and that you got rid of most of your heavy cumbersome equipment due to health reasons. But I'm old school and the form factor of a smartphone just doesn't do it for me and also a smartphone doesn't give me any inspiration...smartphones have taken away the "specialness" and fun of photography....well in my opinion anyway...I mean I have one but really use it for snapshots only on some occasions. Everyone has one now and the camera market is dying slowly because of it..The Olympus camera and Pana/Leica lens I use weigh remarkably little and their form factor is nice and smallish too and build quality is solid and almost jewel like and both body and lens are weather sealed. I love the combo I have now.

I'm warming up to my cell phone, because I take photos I wouldn't have taken, because I didn't have my camera. It does have a good macro.
As far as it taking away the specialness, it just adds another layer. It's just another tool. You learn to make it your own. I do still prefer a camera, but I'll use whatever tool I have. |
