We are planning a trip to FLA in Feb and need advice about what to do in Miami (3 days), and in Naples (2 days)

Looking for fun things for both my wife and I with my emphasis on photography.

Last time we were there around 2015 I met Waddy in the Corkscrew Swamp and that was fun. Naples was pretty, i liked the pier, but I don't remember what else we did (it was 9 years ago).

We've never been to the Everglades and so that's on our list, but not sure where the best place is to pick a tour boat that's safe and offers photography ops.

I appreciate any help. I am sick with the pneumonia now and can't go out and enjoy the warm fall weather. :(

Thanks in advance,

Neil

Chokoloskee, Florida - Smallwood General Store - has tour guides that can take you into the 10 Thousands Islands - Feb is the center of our prime bird migration season, you should see Rosette Spoonbills (hundreds), Osprey, Great White Egrets, Gators and more - totally worth it - I went with Waddy & Wendy

Also, ck out “The Everglades Rod & Gun Club” - LONG history

Not far from there is Clyde Butchers Big Cypress Gallery - he’s a legend in Florida Photography - last I knew - they still do “swamp tours” - very interesting - highly recommend!!!

You’ll also go right by Loop Rd Big Cypress National Preserve - cool stuff in there for sure!!! Should see lots of wildlife in Feb!

A bit more further west on Alligator Alley is Big Cypress Bend Walk which is in the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve SP - worth a stop - short walk - the way Florida “was”.

Miami - you’ll be around some of the very, very best Cuban food in this world!!! Go get some plantains, ropa vieja - you’ll thank me later!!! Fairchild Botanical Gardens is a must!!! If you don’t have an American Horticultual Society membership - get one - it’s sooooo worth it - 360+ Botanical Gardens in the US - you will get free entry and support a great cause!!! AHS

I’ve never been to - but it’s on my bucket list for sure is Vizcaya

Of course Biscayne Bay and Cape Florida Lighthouse (make sure it’s open!)

Then there’s - Key West - that’s a whole different list - let me know if you’d like that one too!!

Now - if you should venture further north to the Orlando area - you could have a private tour guide at your disposal (wink, wink)

This is a great stop - I highly recommend taking the time to visit. And it is close to Coconut Grove which has some great restaurants.

One other thing - if you decide on the Ten Thousand Islands - read the book
“torch” by Loren Brown - Waddy’s Uncle - good read - OLD Florida history.

Waddy made our arrangements for that boat ride - I think he knew the boat operator personally.
