My laptop is still working, well sort of. I've been getting one or more blue screens most days. As it's getting old (bought in July 2020), I'm not convinced it's worth getting it repaired so I've just started researching what's available with similar specifications. So far I've come across these two online:

https://www.takealot.com/asus-vivobook-15-intel-core-i7-16gb-512gb-ssd-15-6-fhd-notebook/PLID95781500

https://www.takealot.com/dell-notebook-core-i7-15-6-fhd-16gb-512gb-ssd-advanced-generatio/PLID95872921

Like my current computer, they're a bit smaller than I'd like, but I don't want to spend too much so I might be prepared to settle for one of them.

For now I'm curious to know which is better, Asus or Dell. Any other suggestions are welcome.

I'll be off to the shops later, so maybe I'll find something better.

Or is it worth spending more on this HP laptop which has a faster CPU?

That one has an anti-glare panel which I always like. Certainly worth looking at next to the other ones if you can.

Depends what you use it for. I usually go for a slightly higher spec because the price is soon forgotten and if it is not performing you will notice it every day. But my laptops usually last a lot longer than 4 or 5 years.

Did you look at Lenovo? I got this one two years ago and I am very happy with it:

It is probably an overkill for you, I do 3D design and that requires a gaming laptop. Maybe something like this one:

Thanks Margaret. I've just found this in a shop. Sounds very similar to the HP and quite a bit cheaper.

I've just seen this one which I'm told is slightly newer and faster.

Can't get links to work from my phone.

Fixed when I got home.

Thanks Willem. That anti-glare panel sounds really good. I found an update on the HP slightly cheaper in a shop. Very tempted to go for that one. I really don't want to spend more.

My current computer is the first laptop I've ever had. I expected it to last longer but feel that fixing it would probably be throwing away money that could be spent on something better. My friend got an old laptop repaired and spent as much as it would have cost him to replace it. I don't want to make the same mistake.

These are the specs of the one I'm using:

Fully understand your choice of new vs. repair. You are just unlucky that your laptop is already showing these problems since those are still decent specs, similar (even better) to what I am using (but most of my image processing is on my Surface Studio 2+ Desktop). You already tried a fresh Windows and other software install to make sure it is not just software related? (or don't you want to go that route?)

I didn't reinstall anything from scratch, but did try a Windows refresh that one of the scans suggested. Not sure if I'm saying it correctly. I'm not that knowledgeable about the technology involved. I'm scared to try anything too complicated.

My computer has other problems too. The camera doesn't work so I'm forced to use Skype on my phone.

I decided to be sensible and try reinstalling Windows before I spend money on a new computer. I'll be a bit disappointed if it works because I'd really like a computer with a camera that works but if the rest works, that's probably good enough.

Reinstalling Windows doesn't seem to be the solution. My computer has already crashed again. Only once this morning though, compared to about 10 times yesterday.

All least you know that it will be money well spent.

Thanks for the suggestion though. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't even have tried.
