The former 5th place image in the December Extended Free Study has been disqualified because the "background" was created in AI and placed in the image. At this point, *nothing* created by AI is usable in challenge entries because there's no EXIF to support authorship or date created.
Congrats to our new HM. |

Congrats to our new HM. |
sorry about the DQ, it is a fine image. I am curious, was the shelf on the top left also AI-generated, or just the faint frame shadow? I would imagine that the latter could pass muster as some form of texture |

Which is how I saw it after some previous discussions on the subject with some SC members. However, I can certainly see how adding the shelf and its contents does not a texture make. Just saying nothing created with AI is allowed I dont think will cut it much longer because AI is already incorporated into many of the tools we use everyday eg: the removal tool. |

First I've heard of it.
Edit to add: just went back 2 months in the ticket archives and you have tickets in there, but nothing related to this subject FWIW.

I've been using Photoshop's AI-powered remove tool lately, very handy and quick, much faster than standard cloning/healing. But I would argue that it is not the same as creating a new object with AI, there is a clear distinction. My understanding is that creating new objects is prohibited, and it does not really matter whether you created them using AI or any other way. |

To be clear I am not advocating for my entry, I have no problem with its DQ. I AM arguing the fact that using the removal tool DOES create new image parts. |

Sure, cloning does create new image parts, it replaces bits, literally, but the rule on cloning is pretty clear: "Objects removed must be replaced with with what actually would be visible if the distracting object were not there in the first place" |

Although I cant disagree with the reasoning for the DQ in this instance, I absolutely love your image, Michael. Its truly special. |

I have used generative AI to do things I could have done with the clone tool and other methods. I figured if I could do it by hand, with the elements that already existed in the photo, I could use the generative fill to do it.
It seems like if you could do it by hand, you should be able to use the AI to save time. |

I don't think that generative fill is illegal unless you use it to create elements that weren't in the original. |

That is a bit too loosely formulated. If you start copying things from one place in the original to another place in the original, I think it could be illegal. It depends on what was in the background of destination position. You can removed unwanted objects and replace them by their background but you cannot add other objects in its place. |

It probably is illegal. It's also been available for a long long time as the cloning tool. |

It is definitely illegal in Standard Editing, but OK for Extended Editing challenges. |
