I saw that Triumph is going retro and bringing back an updated version of the TR6. It made me think of my first car: a 1959 TR3 which I bought in 1968. I loved that car! It was maroon in color but I repainted it in my father's garage to yellow. Here is a picture of one similar. Unfortunately I was not into photography at 17YO and only have one very poor photo of the original.
What was your first car? |

Bet youd like to have that 1st car now, eh? Pretty awesome!
BTW, this sounds like one of those security questions. :-) |

Hah. I had a TR3 for a little while too. Also a bug-eyed Sprite. But my first car, in 1966, was a 1956 Porsche I got for 650 bucks from a guy in college. Like this one but in rough shape. Rebuilt and sold within the year.

You guys had such cool first cars! I, on the other hand, got this ugly Soviet-made "tin on wheels" called Lada in 1990 when I was already 30 years old. Drove it for 2 years and considered myself very lucky :). Left it to my younger brother when I moved to the US in 1992.

Mine was a year older than this piece of French (over)-engineering -- and they don't even mention the two most engaging features: how you can use the adjustable suspension to change a tire without a jack, and how, when the starter motor fails, you can just go behind the driver's seat and fetch the crank ...

Looks like my Fiat 128 from back in the day... |

1969 Chevy Nova. It didn't look nearly as nice as this one. I turned 16 in 1976, and my grandfather gave the car to me. He had recently retired from the postal service, and this was the car he used to deliver mail in rural Kansas. He'd hit 60+mph on rugged dirt roads on the long stretches between mailboxes. It already had a 100,000 miles on it back when many American cars never reached that milestone. It had surface rust over 90% of the hood and roof. If you pulled up the driver's floor mat you could catch glimpses of the road. |

Not a coincidence. USSR licensed Fiat 124 to build the first Lada car back in early 70s. It was not an exact replica, but very close. It retained that design for the next 20 years ))

Mine had a crank also which I had to use quite often because the gears of the starter would frequently not engage with the transmission. After taking the starter out I realized the previous owner had replaced the starter with an older (TR2) version and they werent compatible. I could also park on a downhill or have a friend push and jump start it!
