The challenge theme is "Urban Exploration" which implies that anything one might find of interest in an urban area would be fine. But then the description says, "Document the deterioration, history, and in many cases, the spooky atmosphere and hidden beauty of forgotten places"

So is this challenge about exploring urban areas . . . or about the deterioration of urban areas?

I (and about 50% of the other entrants) got caught in the Pet Photography challenge because I/we did not capture a bond between a domestic animal and a human.

Please help me.

If this challenge is going to be voted mainly on the basis of how I find and photograph crummy, run-down spaces, I want to know that in advance. And once again, I wish the challenge topic would at least hint at this restriction. How about "Urban Deterioration" if that is the intent.

"Urban Exploration" is a phrase commonly used to encompass the discovery and documentation of run-down, abandoned, deteriorating pieces of the urban environment. Here's Wiki:

Originally posted by Wkikipedia:

Urban exploration (often shortened as UE, urbex, and sometimes known as roof and tunnel hacking[1]) is the exploration of manmade structures, usually abandoned ruins or hidden components of the manmade environment. Photography and historical interest/documentation are heavily featured in the hobby.

Urban doesn’t necessarily mean a city. It could be a town. As compared to rural.

Not sure how much more of a hint you need? ALL challenges on the front page that have a description show a good portion of it for anyone to read. If it doesn't all fit on the front page there is a link (called 'more') that will open the rest of it.

See highlighted yellow.

Very helpful, Robert. I did not know this and am always glad to learn new meanings for words or phrases I thought I knew - or maybe even never knew I needed to know LOL Yesterday it was "netizen" for Spelling Bee - my last word and I never did get it :(

Understand. Thanks. I'll go find me a run-down building or something :)
