Went out yesterday and got a couple of shots to share. These shots were taken with one of the following: 70-200 2.8, 17-40, or my 28-200 with a 420EX flash. Everything with the exception of my 28-200 were borrowed ;-).
The Lake
The Ducks
umm.. Random
All comments, criticism are appreciated.
See ya,

Oh man, the colors on Icescape are amazing! Ice seems to be forming a kind of negative space in the upper parts of photo creating a slight feel of imbalance. Which contrasts nicely to lower part of stuff at the bottom of image.
Ice abstract is a favorite, oh man, soft forms on cold ice spiced up with amazing texture! I personally think FOV could have been larger in this since it's a representation of a surface and the name of this picture implies abstractness; Shallow FOV gives dimensionality and thus deteroriate the idea of abstractness. But you could also think this vice verca, so interpretation of this is more in the eye of beholder ;D.

Thanks Petri and Ben for your kind words...
Ben, for the closeup shot, I agree with the more beak less body part... but it was one of those times where I zoomed in too close and then it moved out of the frame ... thank you though! And also, for the Icescape one, cropping out the bottom log may be a good idea --- the reason I added it is because it adds to the dramatic leading line of the ice, but it could be done without.
Any more?
Thanks

I love the colors of the lake/duck shots and the way it contrasts against the usual gray of winter. The duck ones are really good, from the colors and the siloettes (no clue how to spell that). GOod stuff on each. |

wow - exquisite. the only things i would say are that i wish the second 'lake' photo did not cut off the log, and the third 'duck' photo appears slightly artificial (metallic look?) in the greens on my monitor. i love everything else, though. i particularly like the ice abstract. keep 'em coming!
p.s. did you use a tripod on all of these?

I used a tripod on zero of these ;-)...it was too cold out to have to carry it around (i need my hands in my pockets despite wearing a golf and a biking glove)...
As for the duck one,... I think that the "artificial" look came from the 420EX flash taht I had to direct right at it since there aren't many things that you can bounce off of out there. There are some things that I don't like about that image but its purpose is to show details.
Thanks for the kind words (you too kyle!!!) and everyone else. Keep 'em coming! :)
Thanks,

I like the picture of the branch, but it looks a little bit fake. Either way, awesome shots... The dux are crazy!
