Well, I haven't been as active in the DPC scene as one would like, but after many moons, I have finally updated my photography website. Any input would be appreciated (website or photography related)...

pretty nice - the font for the binary mainly the links is kind of hard to read.

i think having the scroll bar there is not only ugly but distracting,
you can plug this CSS script into the head section of each navigation page, this will allow you to change the color of the scrollbnar for everyone so it will better fit the layout of your design.
...just plug in the hex value for each color you want defined

Cool. I like the unusual design of your site, you've been very creative. One thing: Use Cascading Style Sheets to make the scrollbars fir your overall design. My normal WinXP scrollbars have a blueish 3D look, which doesn't fit the grey of your page. Have a look at my homepage, the scrollbars are all white.
Also, most or all of your pictures cannot be looked at at once. I have to scroll them. Consider using popups to show your pictures, or use smalller image sizes.
And I don't agree with soup, I think the links come out well enough, although it took me a moment to find them.

Edit: I just noticed that the scrollbar doesn't change with the CSS in Firefox. Did anyone else notice this? I thought Firefox was pretty good in displaying CSS :(

I believe CSS runs fine on firefox, not on IE, so since many websites were designed not to the W3 standards (firefox's standards) but rather to IE's (the dominant browser), it may appear to be out of whack in firefox.
the CSS that i posted previously should work with firefox

agreed, from what i can see, i dont see any problems with it, but i usually dont use external CSS scripts so maybe the formattings different?
it also appears that none of the variables you have defined in that CSS script are showing up on your site...maybe you have a problem with the code you used to link the external CSS to the webpage?
sorry, i couldnt be more helpful, im not too experienced with CSS.

No, IE displays it all right, the links are fine.
Anyways, cycloxslug: Fix that scrollbar and the image sizes, and you'll have an innovative, cool and professional looking portfolio site.

cycloxslug - another thing i would suggest is having links to the individual albums inclued in the first page of the right frame where you list your contact information. this way, even if someone doesnt immedietly recognize your links up in the binary, they can still navigate the site.

the scroll bar is fixed, more or less. It does not change the display in firefox (which does not surprise me at all...netscape et al have always sucked with css--I have done a fair bit of web design, and it is a constant hassle to get cross browser compatibility).
In terms of image size...I agree that smaller versions of the large images would make it fit on the page...but I am not sure the gain in visual impact would be worth it...a max dim of 600 pixels is pretty small, in my opinion (and with the plethora of popup killers, I hesitate to do popups instead). I will have a think on this one and see what i come up with. |

The scrollbar code is a non-standard extension that works only in IE5.5 onward. I think it works in Konqueror too, but relying on f
rom an user interface standpoint is not a good idea. There are some creative ways you can work around the issue, maintain your theme, and stay inside the standards sandbox.

You might have it backwards there. IE/win is notoriously bad with its CSS support (whereas IE/mac is surprisingly good). Firefox/Mozilla are incredibly compliant.
If you're interested in standards, drop the scrollbar code, test in Mozilla/Firefox and use Dean Edwards' fantastic "IE7" bundle (server-based) to get it to work correctly in IE.

Strange...even the CSS on the w3 homepage doesn't display correctly on FireFox. Is it possible that I disabled the CSS functions somewhere in my Firefox preferences? Does the example from the above site work for other Firefox users?
