Darren, Neil, I think many people are in the same boat,I too find myself being too hurried and submitting stuff I shouldn't,
You both do great work, just step back and take a look. Then start shootin,
Paul.

On track to be my highest score ever, outside of my flukey, one-hit-wonder ribbon of last August. This is the first time I've ever gotten a "fav" during the voting too, way cool. |

Given that this is technically one of my best shots ever IMO, and nails the challenge squarely between the eyes, I'm pretty disappointed with the score. Nevertheless, this one gets framed. ;-) |

This makes me REALLY curious, given the quality of your work. I've finished voting and have only commented on 3 of the 25 or so I hope to comment on before voting ends.

I share you way of thinking. I am out to please myself first and submit shots I like, and consider the vote second.
(kinda' surprised I got the upper hand on you for a change though.)

Someone else who thinks like me? Some people who know me well would be headed for bomb shelters based on that statement alone. Scary stuff! ;-)
Oh, and you're right Skip... there's still time to fall further. Now down to 6.081.

Well I really like mine too and that's always my philosophy--but somehow a 4.96 is still a bit discouraging. ;)
Interestingly I was cleaning out my shot queue (where they wait until being backed up) and I found this shot I took 12/30 around sunset. What's interesting about it is that it shows that my 18-125 Sigma lens has pretty clean bokeh (using the light shape as the example). I assumed I had only one lenses that would show good bokeh and that was my 70-200/F4L. So I didn't even try any shots on the Sigma. (The 70-200 does have great bokeh--and can produce a creamy smooth background, the start of my problems...)
Here's the example. I have no doubt this would have done better than my entry (almost anything would ;) ):

We need more images like this on DPC. Color and textures are sublime. Not many people concentrate on local color & texture.

Just finished my first run, happy to be where I am, some great images.
An awful lot of shallow dof shots, good shots but not bokeh
Hope I haven't offended too many :)

nope, you're just, right and saintly for telling me off. to be quite frank, i just didn't quite get it. i'm still not sure if i do get it properly, but i get it more now than i did... i'm amazingly up beyond a 5.0 now (it was at 4.5 only 40 votes in) and hopefully will stay there. oh hum.

Is it just me, or does it seem that although most people really got the theme of "bokeh", most of the subject material picked just isn't very interesting? This makes it hard to vote. I think that if it is technically correct (i.e. bokeh, correct focus, etc) I'll give at least a 5, and overall I will be voting higher for this challenge than any other. |

HA!
Look at what I just found:
I think this would be good Bokeh?
(Too bad I didn't think of these weeds/plants/flowers/whatevers earlier, but highly
suspect they wouldn't be in the same state of growth 6 months later)
