I have a question...well 2.
I recently shot a wedding as a favor for a friend and with it being something that i am interested in doing i found a couple flaws in some of the pictures that i took.
1. The wedding dress of the bride came out wayyy over exposed. There was a light focused on her but i didnt thing it was that bright.Any ideas as to why this may have happened?
2. When i found myself taking group portraits i found that not everyone was in focus. I used the camera in auto mode just so i wouldnt have any mishaps. Any suggestions on what to do next time?

Hey Namdohtem, I can't give you 100% answers but I can maybe shed some light (no pun intended).
The dress, well, I'm really not sure unless you were metering the area around her .. if there was a light on her it stands to reason that the rest of teh area was dark.
For the group shots, I've had that problem when shooting in low light..if you're not careful you end up using an F stop around 3 and you get such a narrow depth of field that only a couple people in front are actually in focus.
Just some thoughts.
Good luck :-)
On the plus side, overexposed shots look really good in black and white. |

namdohtem, what kind of flash did you use? Was it something like a 550ex or was it a studio strobe?
Also, I've had trouble with autofocus with my 10D in low light. From now on, I will do a manual focus shot as well as an autofocus shot.
What lens were you using for the group portrait? |

Well I use Hensel Integra 500ws strobes. BUT everyone seems to say Alienbees are very good, especially for the price.

When you take group shots it is best to move back a bit and shoot with a f stop around 5.6 or f/8. Don't shoot with a shallow depth of field. People in group shots who are at the ends will be fuzzy! When shooting a bride with a white dress you will want to meter it! Might try a grey card! |

Are there any good suggestions on some good lenses for "portrait photography". I need something that should be wide enough to fit atleast 6-10 people and at the same time a sharp lens. |
