This 'self-portrait' is not within the editing rules (obviously), but what do you think??? :)

How'd ya do it? I saw something similar once (face on an egg next to an eggbeater).
Cool!

A modernized Mr. Potatohead. I love it! Very cool. The expression works well. |

I started with the potato image. I stuck toothpicks in the back of it so it would stand up, and I used white foam board for the base and background. I used two Alien Bees strobes to light it. I then used the exact same lighting to take my photo. I tried some 'normal' poses, but they just didn't seem to work for a potato face. I did a shot puffing out my cheeks to give my face more lumps and bumps.
I selected a larger area than needed of my face and copied it into the potato picture. I used the transform tool to get the right size. I used a soft edge eraser to erase away the extra detail around my face, and to start the blending process. I then adjusted hue/saturation to change the colors light brown, to match the potato color as much as possible.
I created a duplicate layer of my face and cloned potato texture onto my face in the no-detail areas. I adjusted opacity of this layer so I would not lose the contours of my face. The mouth didn't seem big enough, so I selected my mouth and used the transform tool to make it bigger. I then had to use the healing brush to blend the lips into the surrounding area.
Overall, it was not too hard. The real trick is to use the cloning and healing brushes well.
I'd like to see some your attempts... Post em here!

Nice portrait! I like using this technique, I did something similar myself a while back putting my faces onto my fingers.

That's so cute! I think that would be a really cute family portrait for someone who has a couple of kids. A few different sized veggies and some goofy faces would be very fun! |

I want to figure out how to make them 3-D to use as tree ornaments. |

It would be a wonderful challenge; "Self-Portrait as a Fruit/ Vegetable, or Plant"...
I see some people becoming trees like in LoTR, I see someone else making himself into a lawn, "carrottop" takes on new meaning, social commentary strikes as a black member from Alabama makes himself a watermelon, and controversy over "meating" the challenge arises in the form of a self portrait as a baloney sandwich, with many members opining that this is a vegan challenge and no form of meat need apply, while others say this is acceptable because the actual likeness is in the bread and bread is a form of wheat, and would you vote down a self-portrait as an ear of corn if a cow were in the picture?
I'll do my usual "artistic" interpretation, incarnating myself to a burlap sack of flour, and take my usual dive, but it will be a lovely, moody picture. The challenge will be won by a single, perfect tulip shot lovingly in pure studio lighting, the photographer of which is fortunate enough to be beautiful and female and adept at displaying a hint of seductiveness in her self-portraits. The Salacious Tulip, which will display a hint of cleavage for good measure, will get 4,500 hits in a week and skyrocket to the top ranks of favorites in record time.
Second place will be an extreme macro of an open peapod, also shot under studio lighting, with each pea in the pod showing a different variant on the photographer's face. Third place will be "Reclining Nude in Celery", tastefully done of course. Pass the salt!
Oh, it will be fabulous, I can't wait...
Robt.

Ok My turn. Spent about 20 mins on this (As I am a Photoshop novice).
I loke the results, but need to find how to get the contours a bit more pronounced.

IS the healing brush available in Photoshop 6? I can't seem to find it. I love the onion! |
