Maybe we could have submission categories so that lots of different types of photos can be submitted for each challenge? There would be a winning photo for each category and then an overall winner.

Categories:

1. Weekly
- Purpose: Photo must be taken that week
- Requirements: EXIF / proof of creation date, minimal post-processing

2. Open
- Purpose: Photo can be taken at anytime
- Requirements: minimal post-processing

3. Modified
- Purpose: Use image editing tools, e.g. Photoshop
- Requirements: Sky is the limit

This would allow everyone to submit photos, with or without EXIF data and with or without post-processing, but still give us a good idea of who our competition is and what they've done to create the photo.

You hosting us? :P

We did 3 GB of traffic this week on our new host -- our limit is 4 GB per month! OUCH. We'll be paying out the ass :)

We won't be adding any categories / skill levels / ??? until we can handle something like that. But keep suggesting... we're listening...

thanks reuben :)

How's about a twist on this whole date thing?

Let's allow for both. But then give bonus points for submissions that was photographed during the challenge week (via EXIF data). Something alonng the line of a 1/2 point point bonus on top of the average rating. That way we will still reward those who make a concerted effort to get the pictures taken during the challenge week, and still allow others who have a really good photo in their archive to submit. Folks who don't have EXIF data will have to deal with it. There is no ideal solution here.

Having the 'week' requirement is really good. It forces you to get out there and take pictures, rather than relying on what you may have already taken. I find that now I am always thinking about photographic composition when I look at things, all day long. I am thinking about making it a regular habit for every challenge. My submission in the last challenge was taken the nite before the deadline, and I didn't have much to choose from. But this week I spent over 4 hours photographing (still not done yet), and have a choice to submit among some really great pix (about 20 pix, 3-5 really stunning ones) from a number of different locations. I hope you guys don't drop the 'week' requirement.

What is the big deal about snapping an extra shot with dpchallenge written on an envelope or something anyway? Who cares if it is not in focus, it would be just for proof.

I like the weekly aspect . It says challenge and that implies taking a picture not looking through your files. Maybe I don't mind the weekly thing because I don't have a lot of digital images on hand. I know if it wasn't digital I would have had a good entry for the last 3 challenges on film and I wouldn't of had to go out and shot something. I like the idea of having to go out each week and find a shot that meets the criteria of the latest challenge.I'm not sure what the problem is with the exif data. I have a lower end camera and it has all the exif data and it's easy to extract.

Another thing, I'm suprised that the site has not found a sponser yet. I would think with all the traffic it would be a good place for someone to get there name out there.
