So It's been about 5 sessions with the 'chromakey' background and Advantedge. I kept getting this reflection that Advantedge would take out but at the same time alter certain colors, such as a blueish shirt and redish hair. I looked up close and noticed that one side of the backdrop is slightly glossy while the 'back' (or so I assumed) is more flat, but has more noticable 'whitish' threads. I turned over the backdrop to the dull side, and re-arranged my studio to have at least 4 feet from model to backdrop.. I've also tucked the floor part of the backdrop beneath itself hoping to eliminate spill from the bottom. I only fear now that I may need background lights which I don't have!

So without doing a shoot with the backdrop reversed I'm thinking It won't help that much. It's my guess that I will need a different kind of 'chromakey'. The one I have is strange and 'new' as in it's sort of waffle patterned (although very small 'waffles')

Has anyone else experienced these problems? Or perhaps seen this type of backdrop?

Where did ya get it from?
I am still experimenting also and get the spill over, also (that was more with someone lying on it too). I still need to do some more test shots with it lit up real good. but like you said, I have 2 AB strobes and don't want to light it up with anything else. The light that spills over was doing ok, but need to try all lit with its own setup.
I got mine from //chroma-key.com/. It is great and even throughout the weave/thread.
It is knda shiny but not, as you can see (lights at a bad angle, just thu that up to shoot

that is a halogen worklight, most likely the one you can get at sears for $20 on sale, 30 regularlry. It comes with a 7' stand.

Not sure how he is using that and stobes - i would htink there would be a color temp difference...

My replace a background has been done with black or white, seems to work for me, although i certainly see the benefit of a green or blue one.
is one from yesterday. a COLD studio (house with no heat, 15 degree day). The window is a pic i dropped in - the original backdrop was white paper, all shot with AlienBee strobes.

the halogen was sitting there after some expermienting, and it does shift the colr a bit and makes it jsut a bit harder to select the blue.
This thread there was some 'chromakey' discussion also

When you select the backdrop and then invert to select the people, what if any feathering do you do?
I tried with the kids no feather and 3px (shown is the 3px one) and it is not as seemless as i might have hoped - about as 'real' as what JCPenney does and they use a 'real' backdrop, so perhaps i am being a DPC voter in my level of nit picking ;)

I don't select the background, advantedge does it for me. I did fix the problem with clothing, just can't get it to stop assuming color in things like hair.

I have tried selecting the background using the Wand at 100, then fine tuning down at 150-200% on NONcontinuous (using the Replace Color if just to change the background color), Expanding by 1 or 2 pixels and then feather by 1 or 2 pixels. Then Inverting to the person. Still a work in progress though. Not bad, but hair can still be a problem. If it is the strays, no biggy, I usually am getting rid of those anyway.

was on a black t-shirt as here . seemed to work real well.

here are two different skys - look to the left building, the trees got eaten on the one and not the other...just like loose hair i suppose.

In all these i used the magic want, set the tolerance to 20 to 50 range and selected the BG/sky, did inverse and copy to new layer. on the kids, the boys arm near his wrist behind the girls head had to be deselected as the want tried to take it too. i have never had the want try to select anything not contiguous with the BG/sky (as in face or arms or clothing).

I do recall reading out the expans by 2 pixels..have to make a note of that so i can remember to try it next time.

Another way is to use the Pen tool to go around the outline. Works well, also. Depending on how complicated the foreground is, will determine the time to do it. Usually not that much work anyway, once ya get the hang of it.
