Literal representations of existing artworks, including your own, are not permitted. Please read the challenge submission rules.

Disqualified!!!

What's the difference between taking a photograph of an Album Cover and a Television playing a terrible, 70's movie classic...that completely reeked of "bad 70's"? Reeked..."the essence" of the 70's. C'mon!

I probably should have stood further away from the TV set?

...I'm not bitter. Well, not too bitter.

I had to change my idea a couple of times having this in mind! Can't shhot an album cover, can't shoot a movie, can't shoot this, that!
Damn, I was almost setting my brother's electric guitar on fire and and playing a "Hendrix" role!

That would have rocked! LoL

The real crumby thing is that for the third time in a row I came up with "the shot genius "(two different ideas, actually)well after the fact. I need to incubate quicker. Perhaps with time.

Sad, sad, sad.

I feel like Mortimer Duke(Don Ameche)in the movie Trading Places after the trading bell had just ended

"...Bring those Traders back in here....turn those machines back on
........TURN THOSE MACHINES BACK ON....."

The problem I have with some of the entries is this -

say an image really evokes the '70s to me and I think it deserves a high score, but it just may be a photo of photo taken in the '70s which IMO does not reflect a lot of effort and therefore attracts a lower score. How do you tell? Isn't this illegal anyway?

I feel the same...

Why do I feel the standard is MUCH lower than bridges? With the exception of very few good entries, I'm quit disappionted, but don't ask me why, just a feeling.

...so I'm happy with my score so far :) Each entry I'm trying to improve...so as long as I get above 4.548, my score will be awesome to me!

xD My worst score yet! I'm not disappointed... I really had no good ideas..
02/23/2005 09:58:29 AM · #35
my score 5

I gave:
no 10's
2 9's
and the rest...rather pathetic...was surprised by the repetitive vinyl images and the lack of details especially when taking images of people...hair was way too current (sorry i had too much caffeine this am)!

i was surprised by the amount of people who simply set out a product, say a toy or some records, and snapped off a photo. does that really count? i mean technically that's someone else's work. now if they displayed it in a creative way, i gave them points for that because they added a little something of themselves to it. but way too many were just quick snapshots (a lot with just the on-camera flash) that didn't look like there was much creativity at all. i only gave away 2 8s and 7 7s. the rest i really wasn't excited about.

Ok I'm way too excited bout this challenge! heheh
Last minute shot, last minute subscription (not exactly last minute but last day LoL).
And it's doing gooooooooood.
Love the comments

There do seem to be lot's of photo's of art (ie straight album covers etc.)

I took a picture of the film Airplane 1975 off the TV which was quintessential, 70's, movie cheese. And I should mention that this particular movie and it's load of one dimensional type cast charachters launched the whole Airplane, Naked Gun, Scary Movie genre. Yep this movie sunk so low that it set the the tone for all those comedies that followed. I thought it was poignant to "The 70's" theme.

I actually read the TV guide, selected this viewing and outcast All In The Family, Shaft, Happy Days etc. And then tortured myself by sitting through the whole movie snapping away at classic moments that I thought framed the the feel. It took a little thought anyway.

The cynic in me says that I should have placed myself in front of the screen with a joint in my hand,a lava lamp and a dyed shirt and it would have all come together. heheheheheheheh. I do of course see what I did wrong.

Live and learn...

Mine is low. This is the first contest I have ever entered here, and it sucks because thanks to my comp at work, I couldn't do ANY post proc. It got a resize to fit the rules, and that was all that was done. I am sort of a purest as I prefere shots right off the cam, but a little cropping and such would be nice... :hs:
And I didn't get any comments, which sucks. I was hoping for the comments and advice... :(

Mine is also not too good, the only excuse i can think of is that i was born at the end of the 70s,so my memories are not so clear.

This is my first challenge and I must say this is fun! It's neat to see what everyone has come up with and to keep checking up on my score.

I find that some of the comments people leave are mostly unhelpful and are just personal opinion comments. Why not leave some constructive criticism and help people think of ways to make their photography better?

I feel that the creativity just simply was NOT flowing from looking at these entries. More than 50% of the images look like last minute snapshots and nothing more. I have no problem at all with people taking pictures of "things" that remind them of the 70's...but PLEASE do something creative with it. I mean, almost all of these "snapshots" were taken from a normal eye's perspective and with single source unemotional top lighting or just a FLASH. uhg. I'm depressed and thought I'd be happier as I went through the entries....but alas, it only got worse.

I also appreciate originality...someone shot the water drops on the glass with the peace sign in the background so that it can be seen in all the drops. This has been done many times before! It's cool, but slightly overused IMHO.

I'm sure the next challenge will make me happier....uhg.

My next challenge might be a little out there. I hope if I go one way or the other, that people will will think in a more wide opened fashion. Or else I'll change my thinking and go for straight photo quality, of literal interpretations of the challenge. In fact, maybe I should go that way in the first place. But I'm a glutton for punishment.

Right there with you...this is not a stunning lot of photos in my eyes.

This is one of my better entries. Some great compliments and a mediocre score. I'm pretty happy with my 5.4 overall.

P.S. I just noticed that the author of this thread gave me my best comment thus far! hahahahaha

Might be the lowest scoring challenge of all, and a batch of unimpressive photos ( mine included ) but I also think it was one of the most difficult to do. Not many people even opted to try.

I guess that makes me feel better with my 4.6...sort of...no, not really. I've not been able to participate lately and I thought I was really missing all the fun! :D If you're into pain, this is fun!
Just joking, of course. Sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield. Hey, isn't that from the 70"s?

Well good luck then...I hope all of our doom and gloom over the overall quality of the entries doesn't bring down everyone's score.

By the way...my entry is shiiiii-tay! Sadly, it's doing better than some of my past entries that I actually am proud of. Go figure.
