Hi,
I realise this is a digital site but am hoping someone may be able to help me with a query on a zoom lens.
I am on Nikon f80 with lens AF Zoom-Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G
Can I focas and zoom this manually on the M setting safely? I have been doing this and shots have been turning out very sharp. Just a bit confused if I am allowed to manually move the focas ring on this zoom lens without harming anything!!!
Cheers in advance!

I don't know about the Nikon lenses but on most of the Canon lenses there is a little switch to change from AF to manual, is that the M you are talking about or are you talking about the manual exposure mode M? |

I think on the NIkon's there is a switch on the body? At least I think that's how the d70 is. But I could be wrong.

Yes I am in M mode.
everything works fine I just didn't know if it was safe to turn the focas ring manually, or if this lens or zoom lenses in general are built to work automatically?
I am currently using the Zoom lens as a manual lens. By zooming this out and in and also playing with the focas ring- is this safe to do?
Cheers Guys,

I don't know much about the "G" series lenses, but if you have the lens set in manual focus why would you be worried about focusing the lens manually?

I recently purchased a non-nikon lens for my D70. It is a Sigma manual focus zoom lens (75-300mm) It actually works better than I thought it would. There is nothing to worry about! Here is a pic w/ that lens in this thread:Here |
