I don't really think we'll have time for 4 locations, since by the time we've met up, found somewhere for food/drink/whatever, chatted for ages, we've only got a few hours of good shooting time left :o) One major location for each day will probably suffice, IMO...

Well I'm imagining the main meets on both days will be as we usually do - meet somewhere for lunch and spend the afternoon there.
Some people were indicating they might want to do more, for example in the mornings, so I figured it was worth suggesting mornings too, IF people want to do stuff.
Main slots would be lunch/ afternoon on each day.
I'll likely only come to one day's events anyway and decide depending on what's on when...

I'll be in india, have to wait till the next one. Shouldn't we have started planning that one already? We need to stay ahead of the game people. |

I will also only be able to attend one of the days and in the afternoon. I vote for Greenwich since I've never been there but I'm flexible. Noon sounds like a good time to meet for lunch before going shooting. As far as what restaurant to meet at, I'll leave it to the locals to decide.

Yeah, Greenwich was cool - we went there for the 2nd GTG and I'd be happy to return for another one...
Any more input here?

Personally, I have walked around Canary Wharf, but never with camera. I would be interested in taking photos of the tall buildings, the dock sides (cranes etc), and of the (award winning!) Canary Wharf tube station on the Jubilee line extension. I would like to take a few pics from the front of the DLR, such as of arrival at Canary Wharf DLR station. I would quite like to take a photo or two of the crazy traffic light sculpture at Westferry circus, too, but that may be a bit out of the way.
Could easily be tailored to end up (by mid-length walk or short DLR trip to Island Gardens) at Greenwich foot tunnel, which spans Island Gardens and Greenwich. It would be possible to do Canary Wharf in the morning, Greenwich for lunch and afternoon.
Not sure what the light is like for any particular shots (monring v afternoon) nor what might be going on in the area on a weekend - pretty huge & empty spaces in the office area, I imagine. Markets in Greenwich on the Sunday (Sat too?). Anyone live in that area?

OK, let's slot Greenwich into the Sunday slot, for lunch time and afternoon/ early evening... we can work out a meeting point in some place suitable for lunch too.
Also why not set an earlier meeting point in the morning at Canary Wharf for those who want to do that first and move on to Greenwich for the lunch meet?

Saturday, what do people think?
British Museum and surrounding area? There's lots of options for places to meet for lunch to make it easy to gather round there too...
As above, if some people want to make it a full day I'm sure we could set a morning meeting point and then a lunch meeting point too...

I may not even attend both days so IT WOULD BE REALLY GOOD for some of you others to chip in with ideas for Saturday if you still want to do stuff then?

If you want to do Canary Wharf, I strongly advise phoning security there in advance and gettting a permit organised; the pretend policmen who infest the place take great delight in stopping photographers (myself twice), and patronising them about terrorism. A group of photographers would be too much temptation for them, I'm sure.

I'm not attending that bit - I'm opting to meet at Greenwich for lunch. Can someone who is interested in Canary Wharf act on Ed's very timely advice and look into the permit please?
Thanks!

I agree. Getting input on some of this is like trying to herd cats! :oP I'm stopping worrying about Saturday - anyone who wants to meet on that day can contribute to formulating plans if and when they want to!
For a lunchtime meeting spot in Greenwhich we could opt for somewhere casual such as the Regatta Café which is just by the Observatory or a local pub or maybe a local chinese or thai restaurant?

I have received an email from Canary Wharf saying that as Amateurs we do not need permission, but they suggest that we have copies of this email should security question us.
If a few of you PM me with your email addresses, I will forward the email so should some of us not be able to turn up at the last moment, then there will be a few copies available.
