Just flipping through the thumbs I can see that many people missed the boat on the surreal idea, mine included. I knew mine wouldn't do well because it's not really surreal, but I liked it, so I left it.

Well, my score sux - 4.45 no comments, but....
YAYYY!!! My first ever dq request !
Kind of cool to have someone think I had to break the rules to make my pic, what with what little skill I have. :-)

I did mine as a funny, so I expected the low score I'm getting. But, I can't believe how many people did abstracts or realism (with titles describing surrealism). It becomming a pain to review this challenge to me.

adj 1: characterized by fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtapositions; "a great concourse of phantasmagoric shadows"--J.C.Powys
Having an oddly dreamlike quality.
That is what I went for and I'm getting hammered. Probably best pic I have entered in challenges and it's scored very low. Two positive comments, one indicating a 10 score and a third saying abstract does not equal surreal. Looks surreal to me. Anyways, as always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. After all night in the 3s its at 4.6 |

It disappoints me when we at last have a challenge where we can be a bit more creative but then we get shackled by the basic rules and more importantly the over zealous strict interpretation of the challenge rules voters who only care for the sugar coated nice image that has wow factor. |

There's barely Surrealism anywhere in this lot and a number of things that go way beyond basic editing.
This is very discouraging considering someone actually posted a definition and an entire thread explaining what it meant.
I should get a 7 just for playing by the rules.

If you think that an image breaks the rules you should report it and not come onto the forums and whinge about it which achieves nothing at all. |

You'd be surprised at what's possible within Basic Editing. ;-) |

i've recieved many nice comments..i've looked at other photos that are the same size as mine and i can see the detail very clearly..i dont understand why i would get that low of a score if they clearly see what is and say it's good but than say they cant see it? oh well, on to lines!! Good job to most of you for creative thinking, i've seen some great shots!

Agreed, it's a shame that what some will think is beyond the realm is actually within it. I have spent years now, and created a career in art photography, creating art based on basic editing techniques.
It can be done. My gallery is proof of it. It takes more time and effort than many are willing to put in. Photoshop is an amazing tool. It is the quintessential aphrodisiac. What some take 5 minutes to do may take am me hours, days or even weeks too. But in the long run my images come out of camera the way I want them and all I need to do is some simple tweaking.

"There are two types of Surrealism: one abstract (i.e. Miro) and the other highly realistic (i.e. Dali), where fantasy elements are juxtaposed in a hallucinatory dream-like setting." |

I have received one comment wondering how I accomplished what I did within the basic rules. I wonder how many others have just decided that I did not stay within the basic editing rules and voted my entry down on that accord. I have not been challenged. If you see a picture you believe cannot be done with basic editing, challenge it, do not just vote it down because you cannot see how it could be done within the basic rules.
Thank you. |

As I said numerous times before, and I repeat this for others to do the same: if a photo you thought was illegally done got it's validation - I think you should vote it higher then you did!
If someone had "tricked" you that good - it means their photo worked. they deserve a high score!

62 and 4.5
I just can not seem to get past 5.0. I follow the editing rules, and this one has not been edited at all. I also try to follow the challenge to the best of my knowledge. I did get one message, and it was "WOW". Thanks for that.
I am happy with that at least.
It is the first day, so I will watch and see. |

I've started doing that. On the night the challenge opens, I run through all the submissions and any that "look" like they were done outside the rules I note for validation. NOT because Im an a*hole but on the assumption others may feel the same way and out of a desire to see them validated ASAP so they may be judged fairly. On my own part, I judge 'em as if they're "legal" just as the rules say I should.
Hope yours was one of them :-)
Robt.

It seems to me that, on my 70's entry, I was high or sumthing, cz it's the only one I got to do sumthing good. but then I look at my other pics, and they're not that bad. too bad the other don't see it that way!
