I must make a stand on this issue, I find it amazing that this topic even appears as a discussion item.
There are a number of professionals on this site, and a significant number of highly gifted âamateursâ. Many people have spent years perfecting their technique.
I for one, consider myself extremely talented and am proud to claim to be at the height of my prowess.
At school I was repeatedly told what an ignorant âBoy âI was.
Whilst at University, when I had the temerity to question a statement made my the Prof., I was informed that only an Ignorant uneducated Oik, would question him, and when I bumped into a guy in the street this morning (literally) he complimented my back side, suggested I should partake in more sex and travel, and then praised me for being and Ignorant @&nâ¬.
So as a fully qualified Ignoramus, with a proven track record, I am proud and honoured to join my fellow equal in the highest of all positions.
An Ignorant Voter..... |

I suggest you take some soundings from a few of the Brits that hang out here.
It's a word in our English Language....
Oik

It was a rather hot day and we were having double session on Metallic Corrosion, and the new methodology for controlling its impact.
I believe that I a moment of inspiration ( or sheer stupidity) I asked the Prof., if corrosion was both predictable and controllable, why was his car was such a rust bucket?.... |

Quite right Sir, you are an Oik!!
He was quite right to suggest you took to sex and travel...you are a disgrace, a cad and a bounder, Sir!
You are bringing the caste of Idiot into a new realm...here in the UK, it is a privilege, nay, an honour to be the Village Idiot! After 94 years, I'm only 53, I am still an Apprentice Village Idiot.
Damn you Sir, for being so...UnBritish!! |

Yep, ignorant! It is so obvious to the rest of us - planned obsolesence! Corrosion is controllable and predictable - the car companies have complete control of it, and can predict when you are ready to buy a new car ;)
BTW, I wish someone would compliment my backside and suggest i partake in more sex and travel!

I bow to you superiority in this matter.
I am merely a callow youth to your 53 years of Apprenticeship.
Soon I hope to progress from an Oik, to an Oaf.
I think that one need to serve for 10 years as an Oaf, and then you qualify as the Village Idiot, but Iâm not rightly sure.......... |

He must have a very interesting and fulfilling life if he remembers that! Sense of humor, table 5.
(Hot Day + double Boredom) OR (Hot day + sitting outside with a few cans of cider) = (Hot day + sitting outside with a few cans of cider)

Sitting outside on a hot day with a can or two of Cider is my Kind of Heaven,
(Dry Blackthorn is my drink of choice)
sitting inside listening to any lecture corrosion is not.
unfortunately all day drinking was not introduced until after I Graduated.
(or maybe fortunately from a grade perspective)

OAF!! OAF! Are you mad! You need to serve as an OIK for 50 years before progressing to the venerated rank of SOD! It is a long haul from SOD to OAF of at least 3 days. Then, young man/woman...you can start as an AVI (Apprentice Village Idiot).
The rituals for AVI are painful and traumatic. Having your camera strap yanked up between the Crown Jewels will make your eyes water. Then, you have to take up the venerated pose of the Human Tripod...not a pretty site! Then, and only then, can you begin the journey from stupidity to idiocy!
It is a master class making this transition.
I will help you make the crossing from stupid to idiot, for a small fee...

I remember a warm St Paddys day about 5 yrs ago, some student mates and I dragged our disgusting couch into our front garden and sat out the whole day having a couple of drinks and lots of fun. Ah memories!

Next time you're out Michigan way, stop and see me in Flat Rock. Maybe I can get you in to see all the measures we take to prevent corrosion. Until then, please enjoy some travel and sex.
Generally speaking its difficult to get into the body sealing and electro-coat area. Its in the paint shop and we try to limit access to so as not to get contamination in the paint. |

Whilst on the subject of student memories
My other overriding memory of lectures is the very first maths lecture on the very first day at University.
There were 300 of us in the theatre, waiting for for the lecturer to arrive.
Then he came in, locked the door after him and strode purposefully to the lectern. He then stood in front of us in total silence surveying everyone in the room, for what seemed like a few minutes.
I said to the the guy to my left, in a voice which obviously carried a little further that I had anticipated, - my gawd, what have we got here, has he forgotten why heâs here.....
YORK, were the first word to be uttered from the lecturers name, which was quite a shock for me, it being my surname.
YORK...., in this lesson, I do the talking, and you do the listening, If this is too difficult a concept for you, I suggest you change course to something more akin to you intellectual capabilities - Drama is next door (Sorry dsidwell)
What was more surprising is that I had only been a University for 5 minutes, and had never spoken to or even met the the lecturer, yet he knew who I was.
needless to say I made sure that worked extremely hard in his lessons, and kept very quiet.
In my final year, I learnt that he had a copy of our photographs from our original applications forms, and then memorised the name, and details of every student on his course....

He had no fun in college, did he? I spent some of my time there killing brain cells so that in no way am i now capable of memorizing 300 names and faces. Not that i'd want to, or ever could.
