Sure, sure...the day AFTER I'll be in town. ;-)

Does anyone know of anything cool going on that weekend that I should check out?

Edit: Duh. Didn't give you the dates. I meant to say 4/15 or 4/16.

Hi!

Personally, I'd say South St Seaport for the 17th, with a long walk around the tip of the island. Or, at the Staten Island Ferry.

As for the 30th, best place is the Brooklyn Museum parking lot, right near the entrance to the Gardens.

Unless we want to find close cafes?

Katy

south street seaport and environs for the 17th works for me... plenty to see there and in battery park--around to battery park city and esplanade. and on and on.

staten island ferry also a winning idear.

Sounds like the So. St Seaport / financial dist. has been discussed as the general location for the 17th...anybody have an idea for meeting place and time? I'm open to anywhere anytime that day.
Tom, glad to see you joining us, adding you to the list!

If someone would take the responsibility of posting or PM-ing everyone who signed up for these thigns the finalized details so that reservations/plans could be made, that would be greatly appreciated.

It's no big deal. I visit the city several times a year and I'm actually planning to meet up with some friends from another site anyway. I'll check an online calendar for any special events going on. Just thought someone may know of something.

Any chance any of the New York crowd can get to Times Square on Sunday the 10th of April? I was just notified that an image of mine will be displayed on the Kodak billboard there that day. I would really appreciate if someone could get a shot or two of it. It's this image:

I've been wanting to do the Meat Packing District for awhile now. And Morningside Park/Columbia Univ. There's even some amazing modern statues in Central Park around Spanish Harlem. The one I'm thinking of (someone help me?) is of women dancing in a circle?

Seaport, downtown is still cool with me but I'm open to anything...we still need a specific meet place and time. What time sounds reasonble for a Sunday shoot?

I tried the meat packing district a few weeks back and also wanted to get up to the Highline (defunct) RR line that ran above but didn't find a way up or wind up taking many pix. I think I've been around there so much over the years, I'm now jaded in a sense and it didn't interest me. I need some fresher eyes for the city.

GTG World Financial Center/Battery/South Street sounds great.

anything but central park since we did it already.
The village, china town, seaport , washington square park and flat iron area, or brooklyn bridge(manhattan side)...just a few suggestions.
I'd prefer not to bother getting on the ferry as there isnt much to photograph and its over an hour back and forth.
Meat packing district is probably not too interesting on a Sunday I imagine.
I say about 11am is good....dont know what everone else thinks.

I think you should take the SI Ferry. It is an hour but worth it. Staten Island has some really old vintage architecture and if you decide to go, get off the Ferry and continue right along Richmond Terrace avenue to get some spectacular views. Check out my photos titled "house of 1000 corps" and "old Governors house" thats just 2 buildings in some of the old restored towns in Staten Island.

Any updates on details for the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens as far as time/place/etc.? I'd like to start making arrangements and plans asap.

Thanks

I think the most logical meeting point for the ManhattanGTG on April 17th is probably So. Street Seaport. Its close to the Bklyn Bridge, finacial dist, WTC, etc. so there's lots to see from that point. 11am sounds good to me too, but waiting to hear from others. Maybe we could meet by the big ships there...

As far as the BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDENS, the parking lot behind the Brooklyn Museum serves as the lot for the Botanic Gardens also, but it maybe more practical to meet inside at the Japenese Garden which is just inside and clearly indicated by directional signs at the entrance. Admission to the Gardens is free bet 10 and 12 on Saturday so I would say 10 or 11 would be a good meet time. Any other input would be helpful for both GTGs before we make final plans! I do own a cafe near the Gardens, but most probably would then have to drive to the gardens anyway. But we could see how many photographers we can fit in a Pacifica!

I agree with that. Is there a general path that needs to be discussed or is the meeting place the main crux of things?

Any way you slice it, downtown, east or west leads to so many trails and photo ops that you can't go wrong.

It would probably be a good idea to have a general path discussed once we confirm a meeting time and place. Right now we're looking at South Street Seaport at 11AM. Any other suggestions regarding meet place and time?

know it well...have a friend within blocks of there...I just think there is plenty to do in Manhattan of interest not to bother also doing the ferry too. But it's up to everyone else.
I might actually even be going in by the ferry.

Yes, South St Seaport around 11am sounds fine. We can meander down towards the Vietnam Memorial, and then towards the Ferry/Battery Park. It's really endless, so I imagine we'll kinda drift. Wherever we end up is fine by me!

Anyone wanna maybe meet earlier to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge? :) :)

how far is the bridge from the ferry terminal??

Oh, right next door :)

South St Seaport isn't closecloseclose to Battery Park, but for visitors it's a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. The walk to Battery Park from there cuts through the Financial District, which is really eerily quiet on the weekend and can be great for photos.
