Ok, so to re-iterate: If I'm capable of getting sharply focused shots that seem to look good throughout the focal plane, then this bokeh issue is related to my settings, extender, and technique, and does not imply that I have a "bad copy" of the lens.

For Creamy Bokeh(tm), I should attempt to use the largest aperture possible for desired DoF, and avoid IS if I have enough light and can get a good reciprocal shutter speed.

And, I shouldn't complain here if I decide to get two more 2x to try to make this a 560-1600 f/22 IS? =]
