I'm doing fine so far, but I think I should have chosen a different title. Apparently I saw the wrong letter in my picture :)

Man is a part of nature, right? So manmade objects must be also. |

Nah, a nuclear bomb is manmade as well and is not part of nature for sure.

Only 4 comments. Apparently my photo doesn't move people one way or the other. Middle of the road. |

Sorry, I should had been more clear. I'm talking about average votes a person gives "out". Not there current challenge score or the current average that anyone might have. Our profile shows "our" average score and the average score we give when we "vote". I had time on my hands this morning and went to some commenters profiles was amazed that I found alot of people voters score (not personal score) well under 4. I'm sorry only been around for 6mos. I can't see anyone having a voters score of <4 average. Not to point fingers but if your voter score is sub 4 your one of the trolls we speak about.......imo..........ace |

just wondering how the scores are going. since I am just a registred user I cannot see were I am standing in this competition. I currently have 5.6122. Anyone has an idea on which place this could be situated? I am just curious how far a snapshot can go...
have a nice day

I'm so disappointed in the score my Accidental Letters shot is getting that I have quit checking to see it, and have turned off the update button. In my voting I'm seeing an awful lot of them that, IMHO, don't fit the challenge. How can a studio set-up shot be accidental? Or an outdoors set-up for that matter?

How do you know the shots you are saying don't fit the challenge are not suffering score-wise? They probably are. Are the comments you're getting consistent? |

I don't. But I know they are getting low scores from me. Five comments all at least moderately positive.

What does it matter if the shot was set-up in a studio or outdoor. IMHO it's a matter of the subject being or looking like a letter but was never intended to be a letter.
Your statement is confusing what's wrong with a studio shot if the subject was never intended to be a letter? |

Indoors or ourdoors if the resemblance to a letter is because of the way the photographer arranged some items, then it is not an accidental letter IMHO. Remind me after the voting closes and I'll give examples.

Doubtful. I'd say you've got at least 20% beat with a score like that. Especially in this competition.
I'm sucking so badly this year, it's ridiculous. I've only entered a few contests, but my highest was in the 80% range which was cool... This year I've yet to even beat half the photos.
Blech. I'm not trying hard enough. |

I tend to agree with you here but it comes down to how we interpret the term "accidental letter".
It could be interpreted as a person has taken a photo and after examination realised there was a letter in there somewhere or it could be that the person has recognised an accidental letter, (in nature or otherwise), and then taken the shot.
It comes down to which event occured first......the recognition of the letter or the taking of the shot. I voted slightly higher marks for the shots in which I believed the photo was taken first. Rightly or wrongly, I also voted slightly lower for the shots that appeared staged.

well, for me it was first taking the shot and then the recognition, although i am sure that for anybody else is obvious the viceversa....
i was just trying a new angle. once i got home i said to myself: hey, this could be great for the contest, it looks like a letter! so i put it on.
anyway, i am happy with my picture

I was out shooting looking for letters in nature, shot many, but also some other shots of things I saw along the way that day. When I viewed them all at home, I couldn't find one I liked enough to enter among the letters I had seen and then shot; but I found one I liked a lot in my extraneous photos. It edited up very nicely and I put it in. It was doubly accidental in the it was not intended as a letter, and the shot was not intended as a challenge shot. Last time I looked it was scoring poorly, and as I vote I see many that strike me as staged. I feel like I am being penalized by the voters for having made an effort to stay close to the challenge topic. And that feeling will be strengthened if I see the staged ones finish with good scores.
Like bteodorescu, I am happy with my picture. I am unhappy with the way the voters are treating it.
