It could be interpreted as a person has taken a photo and after examination realised there was a letter in there somewhere or it could be that the person has recognised an accidental letter, (in nature or otherwise), and then taken the shot.
It comes down to which event occured first......the recognition of the letter or the taking of the shot.

well, for me it was first taking the shot and then the recognition, although i am sure that for anybody else is obvious the viceversa....
i was just trying a new angle. once i got home i said to myself: hey, this could be great for the contest, it looks like a letter! so i put it on.
anyway, i am happy with my picture

I was out shooting looking for letters in nature, shot many, but also some other shots of things I saw along the way that day. When I viewed them all at home, I couldn't find one I liked enough to enter among the letters I had seen and then shot; but I found one I liked a lot in my extraneous photos. It edited up very nicely and I put it in. It was doubly accidental in the it was not intended as a letter, and the shot was not intended as a challenge shot. Last time I looked it was scoring poorly, and as I vote I see many that strike me as staged. I feel like I am being penalized by the voters for having made an effort to stay close to the challenge topic. And that feeling will be strengthened if I see the staged ones finish with good scores.

Like bteodorescu, I am happy with my picture. I am unhappy with the way the voters are treating it.

It really doesn't make sense that you feel staged shots don't meet the challenge.

The challenge description ask that we create an interesting image of something that looks like a letter but was not intended to be a letter so IMHO if you have a singular object that looks like a letter and you stage your shot then thats fine you didn't need to go out and find something by accident to meet the challenge.

Another point of interest is when you do find something in nature that looks like a letter you would shoot it from various angles to gain the best view isn't this the same as staging the image.

Anyway I just can't see what the fuss is the voters should be able to determine what meets the challenge and vote accordingly.

Sad thing is that I garnished my shot for fun and people seems that it doesn't meet the challenge because of the garnish when in fact I meet it twice dead on the nose. People can be so silly sometimes. Many, many positive comments that have restored my faith in mankind. Good enough for now.

It's by far not a perfect shot but I'd still be happy to break a 5.

Maybe so but thats what makes this site so much fun. Everyone interprets the theme differently and votes thats way.

...and to me the theme title "Accidental Letters" meant voting staged shots slightly lower.

My shot is staged but i discovered the shape by accident, so i don't understand why people would vote it lower....

My score has been going down a whole bunch since yesterday!...It was at 6.39 and now...

Hey everyone, again.
OK now that voting is over mine was Spring on the Farm. I would really like to know what I could have done better. I want to learn from this one before entering another challenge. I thought that it was pretty obvious what the letter was. I asked numeous friends and family, who all got it, but I got comments saying they didn't know how it pertained to the challenge. Please let me know....good or bad.
Thanks
Jewelie

What happened to the disturbing pic of the girl in the shower called "I'm Sorry" did it get dq'd, I was looking forward to reading the photographers comments if there were any.

It sure was, but you had to ask which makes me think it really didn't fit.
Anyway, any hints to make it better

its the first letter I saw....it might have been better if you got a different angle on the curves (make it look oviously like an "S")??
