Hi all, my first post (and its about something bad)

anyway, I got a Fujifilm s7000 yesterday along with a 2.2GB Microdrive and i guess i should have done a bit more digging about for more information on microdrives.
But i have one now and everytime I take a photo i get a "Write Error" so I turned of the camera and removed the drive then I put it back in and tried again (as one guy said he did this and his then worked fine).

But nothing, I'm still getting "Write Errors" I tried the 16MB xD Card that came with the camera and that works fine so i dont think it's the camera.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can try next?
I might send it back and get a 1GB xD Card, I just wanted to get some peoples opinion on this first.

Thanks,
Ant.

Can you try to format it?

How do I do this?

Ok, I just looked for the info (since I know nothing about your camera)

Setup Menu: The following menu options appear when entering Set mode:

* Image Display: Turns the instant image review function off, or sets it to Preview mode.
* Media: Establishes either Microdrive or xD-Picture Card as the primary storage media. (If both types are present in the camera, it will use the one chosen as "primary" first.)
* Power Save: Tells the camera to shut itself off after two or five minutes of inactivity. You can also disable the Power Save function, in which case the camera will remain powered up until its batteries run down.
* Format: Formats the memory card, deleting all files (even protected ones).
* Beep: Sets the volume of the camera's operation sounds (three steps, or disabled).
* Shutter: Sets the volume of the camera's shutter release sound (three steps, or disabled).

I've got a 1GB microdrive that's given me no problems at all. What brand is the 2.2 MD you're using? I've heard of a lot of problems with the 2.2GB microdrives (they're not IBM/Hitachi manufacture), mostly regarding excessive battery drain, but some to do with errors. If you can send it back and get it replaced, that might be the best thing.

I have a Magicstor one.

And I tried format and it didn't work - I still get a write error.

Thanks for your help though :)

These are the ones I've heard the most unfortunate things about, sadly. There was a lengthy discussion on the DPReview boards about this.

Yeh, I think my best bet is to send it back and get a 1GB xD card.

On 6mp setting i should get over 1000 frames with the microdrive i doubt i'd fill it up in one trip out.

So i'll go for a 1GB xD card and if it fills up i'll have my laptop with me anyway :)

Thanks a lot for your help.
