I have an account on www.photobox.co.uk which you can set markup sizes and lots more...

I checked out Smugmug, but $100 is far too much to spend when I'm not even sure if this is going to work out. So far, that Fotki site looks to be my best bet right now.

DeviantArt also has a Print Service, but I haven't checked on the details in some time.

What didn't you like about the site I suggested? PhotoReflect. I'd like to know why you didn't like it because I am thinking of using it at some time in the future.

I also am trying to find a way to feed my habit, and have thought about local sporting events as well. I thought it would be productive to have some sample prints of their game displayed outside after the event, then mailing finished prints to them. I think the spontanity would increase sales tremendously. but Steering them to an online location would probably increase overall sales. How about the Yahoo photo albums? Free and easy to use. Would have to establish pricing prior with cards or fliers. hhhmmmm.

Basically, this is what I'm trying to accomplish...

I was looking into going to some little league basball games in my area and getting some nice shots of the kids playing. I would inform the parents of a web address they can visit to view the shots, and order any sizes they need. There will be multiple teams and multiple days that I want categorized to help parents find the photos better.

Now I haven't investigated DPCprints too much, but I would need it to have folders that I can put specific pictures into (like our portfolio is arranged)

Is that possible?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Harvey, I looked into photoreflect.com. It looks good. I like the way you can customize the site to look like your own, and there is no upfront cost, which is also a bonus. The only thing I'm not sure about is the 15% they take off of orders. I know they have to profit too, but that seems like a lot. Who knows, that might be normal.

And thanks Paul for suggesting deviantart.com. My only reservation there is sending "soccor moms" to a site called deviant art. They might get scared, hop in their minivan (or imported overpriced SUV) and take off, leaving me with no sales. ;)

So Fotki and photoreflect. Anything else out there? I guess I'll have to make a decision soon.

Another option would be to post images on Pbase and fulfill them yourself via a service like mpix... Not as efficient, but it does give you quite a bit of flexibility and chops out the middleman's markup.

The thing you are trying to do with sports events I have been doing with local groups in my area (though in the arts, not with sports). Allow me to suggest an approach -

Set up your own web site - there are oodles of areas out there that give free space. I selected tripod.com simply because having the word "tripod" in my E-ddress made me seem more photographically legit.

Post all your photos there - how you divide them is your own business. Get a Paypal account and go to their site to learn how to make and post buttons on your site (you'll need to get either a "premium account" or a business one - go premium because it is free, except for normal Paypal fees). You'll get the orders when they come in and then you can get them printed and mailed out yourself.

As for actually getting prints out, what I have done is established a working relationship with my local "real" camera/print store. I know which of their print people to work with to get the best quality stuff (not all print people are created equal!!!). They give me the "professional" rate because I resell.

Now, mailing them out yourself may seem annoying, but it is all part of keeping a home business. Oh, and while you're at it talk to your accountant about declaring yourself a business so you can write off your expenses. If you don't already do so I promiste you will like it when tax return time rolls around.

My apologies if my reply has gone too far afield from your original query, but I have found that this basic approach works for me.

Good Luck!
