Lots of questions come up regluarly in these forums with requests for comparisons between two lenses. Canon/Nikon vs Sigma is a common one. Here are some guidelines to go by when making a lens purchase decision:
1. Example images that you see online may be a waste of time to look at. Unless you know that the image has not been post processed in any way (especially sharpening) you can't draw any valid conclusions about the lens by looking at that image.
2. If your primary objective is to post images online and print images no larger than about 8x10, buy cheap lenses. Don't waste the money on more expensive options. Images from cheap lenses respond rather well to the unsharp mask until you blow them up larger than 8x10 in most cases.
3. If you want to really compare two lenses, you need to have access to both lenses. Put one on your camera, mounted on a tripod, and shoot a photo. Using the exact same settings and light, shoot another photo with the other lens, wihtout moving the camera or tripod. Compare the two results by viewing specific areas of the image at 100% to see the fine detail captured by each lens.

Thanks for this post... But i guess even with Unsharp mask you can notice the diference of a good lens and a bad lens... you can see the diference of the sharpness that came from a lens and the sharpness of photoshop... About access to the lens here in portugal as i posted on the other Thread its almost imposible to have the comparison because there is not much material on stores for people to try out... If you are interested in a lens that they don't have you have to ask them to send it from the makers to send it to the store and buy it. They will not ask for lens only for people to test... So that one is checked out at least here in portugal... And ther is no place were you can rent those lens... :(
