I had a great price on the Rebel 'XT' body (black, $719). I ordered April 9th. 'Dell''s call me twice to verify that I still wanted the order in, even though they didn't have any in stock.
Now today I checked and it's been cancelled. They just called me last week and I told them I definitely wanted the order to hold until it shipped.
I am so mad. I am on hold waiting now to see if I can get it reinstated. Any advice? |

I hate to hear that. Especially at that price. I would call them back with my order number and ask who or how it got canceled.

Other places may do price matching. If 'Dell' can't fill the order then maybe it's time to go elsewhere. Keep holding they may still have an answer for you.

This seems to be common practice for 'Dell' these days. Same happened to my mom, but for a lens. She got the three notices of out of stock and the final one stated that if she didn't respond that they would cancel the order.
What ever you do make sure to check you Credit Card once done dealing with these folk. My mom was charged for a lens that she never received as 'Dell' cancelled the order.

then demand an additional 10% off for your troubles. If you tell them your getting it somewhere else and they will lose that money they may just make it happen.

I've heard nothing but bad things about 'Dell' lately. I wonder if they made some changes? I thought they use to be top knotch.

My 'Dell' Nightmare....
I ordered a 'Canon' 20D - they sent me an acknowledgement of order, got me signed up for a 'Dell' Preferred Account [credit card], and told me to expect to receive a confirmation with 24 hours. A few days later nothing. They had no record of my order.
They kinda offered to place my order again for me. I expressed that I had about $250 in discounts. So I spent three hours on the phone with them. Finally got my order replaced (should of waited three days....would have saved an extra $100 on the 'Canon' rebates).
I also received a $50 coupon via email discussion for my trouble. So I ordered an second battery. (Around April 12th) It was back ordered until May 5th. I receive notice it is being backordered further and to call. So I call and express that I do indeed still want the item. And I also never received an invoice for my 20D.
I leave for the weekend and return to find out they cancelled my order. Called 'em up and raised a fuss. They re-instated it and gave me free next day shipping on the battery.
'Dell' has some SERIOUS problems with their ordering system (I just talked a friend out of purchasing from them based on my experiences). But if you raise a fuss they seem to be willing to make up for it. So that's good.
I don't think I would ever order from them again...barring a tremendous savings. |

I will say, that I now have everything as ordered ('Canon' 20D, with battery grip, extra battery and kit lens shipped for under $1600 and all associated paper-work. It just took them a month to do it.) |

I'm still on hold. 1 hour 23 minutes. Tried their online chat but it doesn't work properly today in either Firefox or IE. ARGH. |

Your post, and this thread, make me think that 'Dell' is taking orders at prices that they don't want to sell at. I'd try to get them to stand behind the price they promised, but regardless of whether successful or not, it would be the last time I deal with them.

Neil - that is terrible, and I am so sorry to hear about you going through this. I got my last last PC through them a couple months ago and the one thing I noticed was that eveything was fine as long as I was dealing with their reps in the US. Once I had to deal with the centers they had outsourced, I had some difficulties. |

ok, this gets better.
I am on (finally) their echat system. It times out a lot, but refreshing gets you back in the queue.
Finally, someone answered, accepted the session, and then said, ok, give me a minute to review your question. Ok, so I waited. About two minutes later, they wrote back "because you have not responded in two minutes, I am forced to terminate your session. Goodbye."
Didn't they just tell me to wait?
LOL (not really). More like COL (crying out loud).

Ugh. Interesting that they can't fill your order, but they're offering this:
The 'Canon' Digital Rebel 'XT' with 18-55mm kit lens costs $999 with free shipping at 'Dell' Home. Together, coupon codes "NWF4LF71ZKGMBK" and "79VT3767HP833W" knock the total price to $759.15. Offer ends May 19 at 7 am ET or at 2,000 uses.
I got mine from 'Dell' in a couple of days (and spent more than this). Wanna' try your luck again? |

Hmmm, sounds like a lawyer should get onto them or someone should complain to the media. |

When I checked this morning, their site has the 'XT' backordered for 1 to 2 weeks, so don't expect a quick resolution. |

'Dell' sucks.
I tried to order something and paid for expidited shipping. Next day it's not delivered, same with the next. So i called, and after about an hour being re-directed i finally get someone (outsourced in India) on the phone, and they said it won't be shipped for 3 more weeks!!!!!
WTF???
They advertise one thing, charged me for express delivery, then never even sent me an email saying the item was back ordered.
Screw 'Dell'.
They are one of the worst companies around.

I finally hung up and tried to call sales again.
Everyone I talk to says I have to talk to someone else, they'll transfer me, and I get back to the main menu instead.
Now I tried calling to speak to a supervisor. The first person verified me, told me he would transfer me, and boom, back to the start
Second person, well same thing, he's promised I am going to speak with a case manager, but I have muzac again. (At least no menu).
I told him that if they lose me this time, I'm not calling back so they better call me, or they've lost a 'dell' customer.

Ok, now I got to a supervisor, "Amy" She said there was nothing "she" could do, I needed to talk to someone in electronics and accessories, a follow up run-around.
I have muzac again

They have it in stock and I've never had a problem with them. Costs a little more, but how much is your time and stress worth?

Now I am speaking with Diana,...
"of course, it's not on sale anymore, and backordered. Let me see if I can get you a good price for it... "
ARGH. I don't want to start over, I want the $719 price I paid before.
She says, "Do you want a service plan with that..." and tries to sell me that..
On hold again.... muzac

While I love everything 'Dell' that I own, I absolutely despise their customer service. I have never had a good experience with them. The person who are speaking to is never the person who has the information, it's always the "next" person. And if you ever happen to get to the person who has your information, the system will be down and you'll need to call back the next day. This is the problem with having temps do your customer service.
I wish you luck, Neil!

Um... isn't the "$759 with lens" deal that I posted better than the $719 body-only deal you had before? You can always sell your existing kit lens with your 300D or separately. |

I've never had anything but good luck with 'dell', but customer service is alot of what you pay for when you buy a product such as this. If customer service isn't good now consider what it would be like if you had to discuss a repair or replacemnt with them... Tell them that when you finally get to someone. Let them know of your difficulties dealing with them, otherwise they will not do anything about it.
I vote with my dollars. Its the strongest vote I have. |

They don't even list the black body/body lens on the site. That's the silver. Right now they'll give me the silver with lens for $719. I'm seeing if I can get it for less without the lens. But they don't seem to have that.
