The standard for web sites is supposed to be 800 wide. Assuming 1024 wide (to me) seems reasonable, BUT my browser had other tool bars up and running, so the full 1024 is not available. 800 is.
Height, again, with teh 800 width one would assume 600 in height. I am running at 1024x768 and can barely fit 600 px tal pics on screen (again, toolbars, tabs, etc take up my screen realestate).
Also, DO NOT use flash unless you have an alternate site available that is non-flash. I was at a coffee bar with free internet computers...they DO NOT run flash. If your message cannot be seen, you wasted all your effort making it in the first place.
Not everyone is on broadband! Keep the opening page (at least)down to something small and fast loading.

Use flash...it actually has a higher immersion rate than most browsers.
In other words, it may not work on such computers. But if you're a web developer, I am sure you've had fun trying to make site look identically on PC+IE, PC+Firefox, PC+x, Mac+IE, Mac+Firefox, Mac+Sahara, etc.
But most all of those support the Flash plugin. |

If you have a site made in Flash, and the user on the internet cannot view Flash (for many reasons...some by choice, some by other restrictions) then you have a message that cannot get thru. You might as well have spent your time playing chess instead instead of making a website for all the good it will do you.
How significant is this? When i was in the cafe I tried to show a few friends some wedding photographer's websites. Of the 5 i tired, 3 used flash. We could not see them. Now ask yourself, did they make any impression, any contact, any thing at all with these potential customers? Those 2 sites that used HTML only, did they make an impression, contact or get their message out there?

guess what prof, Mac users have been griping the same thing...
you need to know your audience... there are things that flash can do that cannot be done in HTML. There are times to use HTML and times not too.
Know your audience and your purpose. Yes, its good to provide basic HTML summary. But realize, there were people making the same arguments about graphics 10 yrs ago by text only browsers and for thos who are not able to see. *shrug* |

Thank you for your answers, for the flash it is another debate. There is for and of against indeed.
