Hey all, just a quick questions, since you are now officially my personal reference tool: I'm working on a script for a living history museum, and I need to say the following in French:

"Hello and welcome to the Rendezvous! How many of you speak French? Oh, so few?"

Thanks! (If it were German, I could probably handle that...)

lemme try and make this sound proper...

"bonjour et bienvenue au Rendezvous! Combien d'entre vous parlez le Francais? Pas beaucoup?"
The ending part sounds kind of funny but I can work on something wittier..

Bonne job Carolle! ;-)

I would just take out the "le" before Français. :o)

"Hello and welcome to the Rendezvous! How many of you speak French? Oh, so few?"

"bonjour et bienvenue au Rendezvous! Combien d'entre vous parlez Francais? Pas beaucoup?"

My wife, the technical writer and translator in three languages, say that the latest version is correct for what was requested.

Since French is my mother language, I can add this:

"Hello and welcome to the Rendezvous! How many of you speak French? Oh, so few?"

"Bonjour et bienvenue au rendez-vous! Combien d'entre vous parlez francais? Oh, si peu?

That would be the exact translation with the same meaning.

It seems that translation, like good photography, is an art and not a science! Thanks again everybody!

hehe half the battle is trying to sound french :) You gotta get the accent just right!

Wrong wrong wrong.

The correct translation is:

"Bonjour et bienvenue au rendez-vous! Combien d'entre vous parlent le francais? Oh, si peu?

You see, the verb "parler" has nothing to do with that "vous" in this sentence. "Vous parlez" is correct, but in this case it's "combien (de gens) parlent"...

Now for the fun part: the same sentence in a French movie would sound like this:

Combien de cons et connasses y-a-t'il ici qui savent vraiment parler le Français? Si peu? Putain! Fait chier! Merde! Trou du cul!

...seriously!
