Sunniee,
I've only commented on 10% so far- will hopefully get to all today! I love birds! I've notated several "favorites" already!

(PS. Unless there is no bird in the photo. I'm passing on commenting.)

rsaulyte,

So did I. The comments I've received so far have all been positive. and still I'm at a 5.7 -Definately ON TARGET for competition topic, in focus, good color, (hopefully) interesting, soo..... Average score.

Perhaps we should all come back after the challenge and comment in more detail on each other's pics for this challenge.

Anyone interested ??????????????????????

for all of you wondering about comments:
there are some of us who like to score and then go back and give comments
i understand that it's frustrating to not understand why someone gave you a particular score
this takes time
this is only the first day of scoring, so please be patient

Not sure what I did to elicit so many comments so early, but I'm thankful for them all! As far as my personal routine of scoring goes, I generally score then go back and add comments to at least 20% of the images, so I wouldn't fret about not having many comments yet - I know a lot of people go back after voting & add them later!

I knew this photo wasn't going to do well as I didn't have much time to really do anything with it or choose another photo. Dang weekend cutting into my selecting and editing time. lol

I'm happily holding steady with some nice comments. My score's been creeping up and my guess is that around half the votes are in. I've been finding that the early voters, in general are a bit more agressive than the latter so maybe my score will pick up a little and place nicely.

This has been a nice challenge to vote on too.

I agree about this being a nice challenge to vote on! There are some REALLY great photos in this one. This is the first time I voted on all of them, and when I was done, I was wishing there were more :)

I was pleasantly surprised to find that my score steadily creeped up too overnight. It's at 6.328 now with 3 favorites and nice comments :) This is one of the pictures for me that I love, even if no one else does -- but I'm happy some others are liking it too :)

This one is still pumping for me. Very impressed, my camera died and I have been trying out a friends 300d.
I took the bird challenge on it and it looks like it may finish quite well. I could sure get used to this camera.

My bird has rallied slightly after being shot at repeatedly by the early voters. It's wounded but mangaging to limp around on one leg. I actually hated this challenge to begin with, but I've fallen in love with my bird! So **** to the score, I'm going to print him afterwards and keep him as a mascot.

Amber, your flamingo bird outtake picture would have looked cool for the fantasy competition if croped then rotated on it's side! Nice.

My bird is getting hammered for some technical shortcomings. I knew them ahead of time but decided not to fix. Urgh. Note to self, make sure the shot is technically perfect!

I did not enter the challenge, but I have started the voting process. I am about half way through. I have never given out so many high scores before. I must have a least five that I gave 10's and even more 8's and 9's. I usually give out about 2 or 3 10's. Good job guys!!!

Not a bad score, but looks like a lot of high entries in this challenge, might be middle of the road. Love the comments, keep them coming.

Ummmmmmmm. . . . .I wouldn't say 5.88 is exactly getting hammered. That's not a bad score. If they are hammering you and you are still getting 5.88, it must be a great picture!

Yes, you are correct. I hope I didn't sound conceited. This is one of those shots that I was SOOOOOO happy with, I was positive that I had a 6+ easily (my goal these days is to beat my ~5.8 average). I was sooo convinced the shot was strong that I left a technical flaw unedited that I have now had pointed out to me in 5 out of 6 comments. I learned my lesson.

There's even in a bit of competition with my daughter, who also had a very nice entry in "birds." She's hanging in there around 6.2 so she's spanking me quite well right now!

Like I said earlier:

This means that most of us are getting lots of 5's and 6's since there are so many strong images. So with this in mind, everyone who is in the 5.0 to 6.0 range can easily tag on 0.5 to 1.0 to their score. I too was sure that my image would be in the low 6's. It's struggling to stay at 5.6+.

I like your reasoning, BeagleBoy. My entry is probably one of the best bird pics I've ever taken, and it's languishing at around 5.7... But there are some really good ones in this Challenge.

Where's the button where I can tag on that extra .5-1.0??

This one is nearing my highest score ever. Knowing that my photo is not that good technically but does have interest I̢۪m guessing that this challenge will be won by a rather high score of 8 or better maybe even a rarified 8.5 or 8.6. There are some shots that reach perfection in there.
