I'm in Colorado, every time I start to down load shots my laptop shuts down. This only happen at home a couple of times from over heating. I keep the laptop up couple inches so the fans have plenty of room to work since I started doing this it never shuts off on its own. Any ideas why this is happening? If no quite fix, is there some kind of device I can buy to down load, I'm running out of memory cards.....Thanks....ace

you might need to run a scan disk, sounds like your card reader is trying to write to a corrupt area on your laptops hard drive

The computer willn't stay on long enough to scan. It's shutting off just being on the web. Shooting in jpeg so I can capture as many shots I can. Thanks

here is the fix for your problem. You have pull out the compartment that contains the heat sink. Using compressed air blow out the dust. You should also be able to just enter the fan compartment and blow out any just in that area.

This will fix your overheating problem drastically. I do this process about every 3 months as my laptop is on 24 hours 7 days a week. You sould see an amazing amount of dust build up.

what brand of laptop you said the fans are on the bottom. I'm thinking this is a Toshiba.

I had a similiar problem with my laptop before. It turned out to be a virus. The crazy thing was that I needed to download the fix but couldn't get online. So I had a friend download it and fix it for me. Can't remember the name of the virus but it is very popular.

Yes its a Toshiba. I had this problem when I first got the laptop, I'd have it on my lap and it would over heat. I'm going to try the fans, this is what I thought it might be. Hope its not a virus.......Thanks I'll let you know how its going.

This will for sure fix it. Toshiba are a very good laptop but they have a problem with the whole heating issue. It can be fixed by doing what I did. Good luck.

I don't want to ruin your thread but i have a similar problem... My computer (not lamptop) just goes down after a few minutes...
If i start doing things on it it shuts down but continues turned on, but the monitor just goes of like i didn't had the monitor plugged to the computer...
Can anyone help if you think this will ruin the thread please do say and i will start a new thread...
This started happening when i first tried to connect my cf card to the onboard card reader...
The computer slows down if i don't have the cf card connected to the card reader.
Please help.

hmmm it might take a long time to try to figure out which virus it is and since you can't go on the internet it won't help much to research. so i would suggest that you get norton or some kind of big name anti-virus software.
