"Your photo need not contain a person."
That means i can't photograph a person for this challenge ? or the pisture don't need to have a person on it ? |

your photo isn't required to have a person in it. perfectly fine if you want to include one or more, though.

You CAN photo a person if you want, but you don't have to. I guess an example would be an animal with offspring.

So.... only 50 submissions so far. Can I safely assume there will not be 500 last-minute entries? I've never seen so few just 48 hours before voting starts.

I feel sure that there will be lots more pop up during the weekend when families are getting together more. I was going to wait until Sunday because our kids all come over on Sundays, but I got lucky and got what I hope is a good candid family shot instead. I like it. . .I just hope other people do too.

I don't understand why all these threads pop up every challenge. It does NOT say shall not, it does NOT say may not, it says NEED not contain a... This should also be quite evident in the first sentence... Take a photograph that conveys the idea of family.

Not everyone here has english as their first language...'need not have' is quite complex syntax for non0english speakers.

You would think that with most of my pictures being of my children I would have an entry into the challenge, but I don't yet. I am trying to follow my own advice about not entering anything else unless I am just thrilled with it. I have taken a few (50) shots but none of them say ribbon to me. |

Worse yet, there are many with English as their first language who still can't speak it well. Some of the things that I hear over the public airwaves must be making my 6th grade English teacher spin in her grave.
My greatest respect for anyone who can speak more than one language.

YIPPEE!! I've been working on my entry all day and get ready.... it's not the typical "family" photo. I am so excited. I don't care if anybody likes it cause I am absolutely thrilled. I think it's my best entry so far. I was so glad I could use advanced editing and I went back and forth between two programs. With fewer entries so far, I'm curious to see what the final number turns out to be.
Now.... off to figure out something for sports.

i can't do the entry because i'm not a paying user of the site, but i would suggest maybe a picture of a table set for dinner that is waiting to be occupied by a family, or shoes lining a hallway that clearly points out a father/mother/daughter/son type of thing.. just something that shows evidence of a family. |

Food for thought ... not all families represent the platonic nuclear family with a mother, father and 1.2 (statistically) children.
Not all families are families of people, or even families of animals. There are families in botany, trees for example. Families of automobiles, muscle cars for example. Families of programming languages, object-oriented for example. Families of debt, mortgage instruments for example. Families of religion, Christianity for example. Families of disease, viral for example. Families of mental disorder, okay families elude me here but there must be.
Let's be a bit open minded about this family thing, what do you say!? |

Great post, Digit!! I totally concur with you. You'll find out soon enough with my entry. LOL
I even see a segment of a family. A single family member... (oops, I might give myself away).
