Okay, well here's my sad, sad attempt. I have such a hard time with the dodge and burn tools. It's crazy really. The effect on Joey's pictures is so very cool, but I'm still a really long way away from figuring this stuff out.

Not true - that boy can grunge anything

Of course he can grunge anything, but I'd argue here that the non-grunged photo looks better than the grunged one. Looks like this mentorship group is dying down. I'm still willing to participate if anyone else is. Or we could just use this as a forum for exchanging ideas.

Nick was just taking a break he said... he had some "guest mentors" lined up but we shall see. Either way, I know some of us were able to play catch up! :0)

I know, but at the same time I didn't want him to feel like he has to keep doing it if he's getting overwhelmed by other things :) - I know, catch up can be very important! ..especially with the recent tricky grunge lesson.

Hey guys,
College started last week and I then I went for a trip up to Boston for a few days. I am working on a senior thesis this year and dont have the time anymore to mentor the group. Feel free to continue to use this thread as an open forum for discussing things we went over, asking for opinions on shots and editing, new techniques etc. I will stop by when I can to check the thread for new postings. It was a real pleasure to mentor this great group and I wish you all the best!

Remember to keep experimenting with different effects, browse the web for tutorials, and check out
Action central for photoshop actions. My current favourite action is midnight sepia v2 by Dave Jaseck and another fun one is the lensblur action by Kent Christiansen. The final assingment is to use the midnight sepia and lensblur action on a shot :-)

Thank you Nick and my fellow members for teaching me so much through this mentorship. I definitely still have lots to learn, but I know so much more than I did just a few short months ago.

Brian, I'd love to keep this thread going as well so I'm game if everyone else is interested. Any way we could keep it going would be great. Maybe we could post a thread asking for a new mentor or something, or as you said, it could just be a place to exchange ideas.
I'd love to hear what the rest of the group thinks.

well... I have been thinking about it! We all mentioned ideas we wanted to learn more about. Why don't we pick one, find a tutorial and just do it! You guys have helped me with your comments so much. I think it'd be great.
(which reminds me, I'm still behind on my comments!)
I think the tutorials help the most when we are doing them all together!

ok here's my last assignment! *sniff* ;0)
Thanks again Nick!

I don't have a good image for the blur one right now, but I am loving this midnight sepia! I had to boost the shadows by screen mode in a layer, otherwise the image was too contrasty and her eyes were completely lost in shadows. Also I added a little yellow in the white channel to give the clouds a little color. All this was before the action.

anyone else taking a stab at the last assignment? (I'm the only one posting at this point, aren't I???) :0)
In case you missed it it's... 5 posts up! I think you guys would like the midnight action, I did!
