Canon or Nikon? Which one is the best camera manufacturing company. I am finding the answer for years through internet, but still not sure.
Your answer? And why?
One more thing, where I can get these companies selling statistics?

Okay, here's how it was told to me. The director of photography for this place I'll be working next month says this:
"Canon have that sharp, crisp and bright look that Nikon doesn't have, But Nikon is way superior in term of light exposure, it captures more shades and has finess"

Most people say that you should choose based on the lenses as they are the things that really make the picture. I have heard quite a few say that they feel that the Canon line of lenses is currently a little ahead of Nikon.
Nikon was far ahead of Canon for a long time though and I have recently found that second hand lenses are nearly triple in quantity in second hand stores.
The bottom line is that you would probably want to choose lenses for your style of shooting, then look at what is available. Once you have a leaning, go to the stores and try them out to see which one feels better to you.
In the end, it doesn't matter about dollar values either. If you have the lenses to take a shot and you get it, it's the shot that makes it worth it. If you fumble the camera or don't have the lens or something doesn't work quite fast enough, that's probably your error, not the camera.
I will be getting a canon because one of my good friends has a canon and he has rather a lot of expensive glass I might be able to use sometimes. Doesn't mean it's better though. |

Those are cool set-ups but why do they need so many "Canon" Cameras? Hopefully ONE will get a good shot? Just teasing, cool link. I seriously did not know they had so many cameras allready mounted like that for any event.
Nikon vs. Canon I think is bogus. They are the top of the line both of them and I think they have a camera for each photographer. Heck if I had a lot of money (and no more essentials to buy like studio equipment) I would buy a Canon my-self, to experience both. Just like cars, many companies, many models... Hard to name a winner.
What I'd be interested in tough, is if there is some way to use DPC's data to bring out some stats on what's happening here. Canon's average scores vs. Nikon's, Nikon's list of ribbons vs. Canon's... I doubt this would be possible but it sure would be fun.

| When looking at both Canon and Nikon systems during my initial investment into the digital SLR world, in the end I chose Canon....why?....cause I didn't like the red stripe that Nikon had on the front of the camera. :) |

That's so funny! I didn't like the red stripe either, I think it makes it look "toy-ish". That's funny tough how it came out! ;-) |

| Both systems were close in price range, features, and lens options, if it hadn't been for that darn red stripe, my choice may have been different. ;) |

| The main reason I choose Nikon instead of Canon (but I've been going back and forth for months) is the ergonomics of the Nikon: it just felt much better in my hands, and all settings are accessible with only one button-press. |

Canon, Nikon, who really cares as long as the camera takes a purdy picture. Frankly I couldn´t care less what name is on my equipment as long as it does it´s job and I like the outcome.
The ONLY reason why I went with Canon is that here in Iceland 9 out of 10 people with DSLR cameras have Canon so it´s much easier to sell and buy used equipment and get repairs and new equipment is slightly cheaper too.
As far as I am concerned the Canon vs. Nikon is like comparing Coke and Pepsi...

I like Dr. Pepper.. does that meant I should be using Pentax, Olympus, or Konica Minolta? I knew it had to be my equipment's fault that I haven't won any ribbons ;P

I choose Canon for my first DSLR mainly because at the time I was ready to buy, the 20D was the newest model available in the price range I could afford; and because of a good experience with my Canon Pro 90 IS. If I were buying my next DSLR today it would probably be a Nikon. Canon's record for customer service is a disappointment, to say the least. And I don't want to go thru life wondering what it's like on the other side. You can't really tell which suits your own needs best unless you try them both. If you are long-term serious about your photography, why rely on other people's opinions on such an important decision?

Anyhoo -- Every good photographer knows Nikon is the best. First, chicks dig Nikon. Second, their flash system is superior. Third, (at least the d70) uses a true CCD sensor -- not some budget-built CMOS (they will in the future, no doubt about it though). Fourth, their build-construction and ergonomics are MUCH MORE user friendly than the Canon counterparts -- just go pick one up and you'll see for yourself. Fifth, Nikon makes the best glass -- need proof? Here's a guy that mounts Nikon glass on his Canon 20d...

I chose Canon after looking at the 20d & D70, because I wanted a battery grip and the Canon felt better to me. I used to have a minolta D7 and the ergonomics on that are fantastic, the canon was a lot closer to it - and therefore what I was used to than the nikon. I really didn't like the feel of the D70. I guess it just comes down to personal preference - they both make v.good cameras. I'll probably stick with canon now cos of the lens issue.

When i was deciding, I was sure i was going to get a Nikon. Cost was one reason i went Canon - up front and lenses later, The second reason was upgrade path - canon has more options and releases new models more frequently.
After my first day out shooting and comparing pics with a Nikon user I was sure i'd made a mistake - but in reality it is the lens - once I got a good lens i was satisfied with my Canon.
Quality wise- I have no complaints with canon (this camera or other canon products i have used in the past). I did have a Nikon film camera that literally fell apart - every few months somthing would come off in my hands. I hear Nikon's non-slr film cameras are not of the same quality, build wise - shame on them, as they lost a dSLR sale/customer over it.

Yup... deapee is a Nikon evangelist and can't tell the Canons apart. You know the deal: "They all look alike to me..."
