Hey everyone!

As you all know, NotACon is quickly approaching! As we're finalizing the logistics, we're reaching the point where we're starting to have to lay out money for many of the event expenses.

At this point, we're asking that people who are planning to attend the event visit the NotACon payment page and pay in advance if you are planning to do any of the following:

- Buy a t-shirt
- Attend Friday and/or Saurday dinner
- Need a Metro (subway) pass

This will help us finalize the counts, so we can get the orders/reservations right, and ensure that we have the money to actually pay for dinner and the shirts.

NOTES:

* It is critical that you pay no later than 5:00 PM Monday so I can call in the final counts to Pizzeria Uno. If for any reason you cannot do so, it is IMPERATIVE that you PM me immediately to let me know. Failure to do so will result in you not being counted in the dinner reservation!

* Please do not order a Medium or XXXL t-shirt unless you have already cleared this with Mcrochip. While the system will take your payment, we will not have a shirt in that size for you unless you have arranged this in advance. Anyone ordering a Medium or XXXL shirt that does not exist will be given an XL.

* If you are planning to use Metro for transportation FROM the airport, do not include that day in your daypass purchase. You will need to purchase your farecard or daypass for that day at the station.

* If you are bringing something for dinner instead of paying, please still select the appropriate option. This line-item has a cost of $0.01 and will be used to establish headcount only.

If you have any questions, please PM me.

Thanks!
-Terry

Questions about the MetroRail passes... How/when will these be distributed? I assume they are Day passes. Is this something we can get ourselves at the station or is this somekind of discounted amount? I'm just curious, as I'm not familiar with the system and won't be going to dinner Friday night and will not be staying at the same hotel as most everyone else, so I'm not sure what to pay?? We come in Friday, but will probably not be meeting up with anyone until the events on Saturday for which we'll need a pass, right, then we leave Sunday? Just trying to figure this out. Thanks for the help! :-)

I was having some of the same questions so I looked this up: //www.wmata.com/metrorail/buyingfarecrd.cfm

When I was there in March I found a day pass to be great for the one day I hopped on and off the Metro several times. But if you know your trips may be limited to 4, say, on any given day then a rechargable fare card makes sense. It seems from the link above that the day passes are available from the machines in the stations--I know the other ones are for sure.

Are there stations where we're going that don't have machines? Jenesis will be just north of Dupont Circle, if I recall correctly, and I will be at the Bethesda Hyatt.

Edit: CJ, please check your e-mail for my other questions. Thanks.

The reason we are doing this is to facilitate overall flow of the event. If I have you down, then I can get your passes, give them to you on friday, and we don't have to deal with the delay of getting passes when you are here.

It's a small thing, but those of us who metro daily know how much time this saves. :) So if you don't preorder metro passes, fine. It's not a problem at all. This just makes things go faster. The thought of 40 people trying to get passes at the same time makes the mind boggle. :)

Thanks Clara! And you can ignore the PM I just sent you. I answered my own question by looking at Kadi's link. Probably would just be easier for us to get the day passes ourselves since we're kind of separate from everyone else and won't be going Friday night. Looks like from the link anyways, that One Day passes can be purchased at all stations. Thanks again!! Now I'll just head over to paypal page and do the rest!! :-)

These are something you can get at any Metrorail station from a farecard machine. We are advance-selling the daypasses since the farecard machines are S-L-O-W, and each station typically only has two machines capable of issuing daypasses. I plan to purchase all the passes at once at a staffed Metro sales office; this way we will avoid having to wait for everyone to purchase their passes in advance.

The pass is actually slightly cheaper at the machines; I had to add a small markup to cover the cost of what PayPal charges me to receive money. That said, most people should PLEASE preorder their passes. It will save a *LOT* of time at the station -- I'm sure we'd much rather all be shooting than watching each other fight with the farecard machine.

At the risk of repeating Clara, we are recommending DayPasses to help keep the event moving. By using daypasses we will not need to wait for each other to add value to rechargeable farecards at a farecard or (heaven forbid) Exitfare machine.

Thanks, I hope you're right! The number of people coming and the length of the gtg make this level of organization a must.

A lot of people have stepped up to help make this happen. Clara, of course, is the evil mastermind behind the whole operation, and many others, including Di53 and mcrochip have done an amazing job of helping to make this event a reality. I'm glad to see it's paying off!

No. We've limited the number of sizes to make the order manageable.

As mentioned in the other thread, nearly all of the shirts ordered were XL. A few medium and XXXL were ordered in response to specific requests. If you want/need one of these sizes, check with mcrochip to see if any are still available.
