I just purchased a Rebel XT that is being shipped as I write. Any suggestions on the operation/how to capitalize on the experience?

Read the manual and play with it...

Shoot raw if possible but if your using PS/CS or below it will not support the RAW.CR2 files so you will need to use other software to convert the RAW files to TIFF.

Make sure you get the best lens you can.

The body is smaller than the 300D and 20D so holding it can be a problem if you have big hands. A battery grip is nice to have.

Read the manual then re-read the manual and any manuals that come with the lens you purchase.

Practice, Practice, Practice.

I don't know what camera you had before but if it was a P&S you will see a considerable difference in out of the camera pictures. You will use software to bring the photo to life with a dSLR because there is very little processing being done within the camera like a P&S camera.

Enjoy.... And congratulations.

The "big hands" issue may not really be an issue. I have rather large hands (I'm told) and I can hang on to it just fine. I do agree about the RAW shooting. If nothing else, it's fun to tweak the RAW into what you saw when you took the picture...or into something completely different. I also agree with the "read the manual" comment. Always a good idea.

All in all though, I'm sure you'll enjoy the camera.

I upgraded from the Rebel 35mm to the strictly digital. I am sure the pictures from this camera will be better than the pics that I took with my old Sony digital MVC that put them on a 3.5 floppy!
