Just watching Bay Area Backroads and they showed a story about Safari West in Sonoma County.

Seems like a great photo spot. Maybe a GTG there if enough people are interested.

It's an excellent spot for wildlife type pictures. I was there once a few years ago and felt it was really good value. They use WWII type vehicles to take people around and there was plenty of animal life to point cameras at. I took the morning tour. There was excellent lighting for photos, even though it was pretty early for those of us who must take the 1 hour-plus drive from S.F. for the 9:30 start.

Sure, if anyone wants to go, I'm game. So to speak ;>)

I also want to go back to the Academy of Sciences to see the Chocolate exhibit.

Sure! Good idea. YOu seem to have the most difficult schedule to work around, GeneralE, so why don't you throw out a couple of dates and see waht we can do. There is a terrific display of photography at SF MOMA right now. It's about a block or two away so, we might combine the two. (I'm a member of SF Moma and have plenty of free passes if this works for you)

We've already missed free admission day for this month, right?

I'd like to bring Isaac--how about Saturday, 8/20? I'm likely to be out of town the following weekend, and after that is Labor Day. I can be free weekday mornings too, maybe from 11-2 if we're in SF.

Boy would I like to make that GTG. I love that town and I'd like to go out there the next long weekend I have or in October but I have nothing concrete in mind.

I'd kill to have another crack at those views with my D70.

In early October the large animated dinosaurs return to the Lawrence Hall of Science in the Berkeley hills. It is above the UC campus, next to Tilden Regional Park (Nature Center, Little Farm, Steam Trains), and the plaza there and the roads leading away from it have great overlooks of the bay--just need to pick a clear day if you want shots of SF or the Golden Gate.

Check my portfolio for many shots from this area.

Great! I also have the 20th of August free. The Academy opens at 10:00am. Is that a good time for you and Isaac on Saturday, GeneralE?

11:00 is probably more realistic ... we are always running behind schedule. Also I need to talk with him about it -- he's out all day on a hike today. But it seems like a highly-workable tentative plan for now.

Well, if you tried for the bridge today, this is what you'd get. Summer in San Francisco. (and I'm not complaining.) This was taken about 1 1/2 hours ago.

Meanwhile, I'll put a hopeful star next to the 20th for the Academy.

Anybody else?

I just saw your post about this in the rain thread, GeneralE, and I would love to check out the chocolate exhibit. I might be going to the Luce concert that day to raise money and collect clothes for homeless people, and that day happens to be my birthday, so that's 2 possible strikes right there. But if I don't go to Luce and my wife doesn't have anything planned already, I can think of no better way to turn a year older than in a building full of chocolate. Hope to see all of you there. :-)

I could also go Sunday, 8/21. Isaac said he was getting hyper just thnking about chocolate, so I guess he's OK with the idea. I need to review getting there via BART.

I think it's pretty easy to get there by BART, but don't know enough about the downtown stops to advise you.

Sunday. Unfortunately, I can't make it Sunday, but if it's best for the rest of you, not a problem. There'll always be another GTG where I can join in.

Are we still on for Saturday, the 20th, at the CA Academy of Sciences for Chocolate?

Now, I do seem to have some Guest Passes. Enough for our group, for sure. (I just renewed, and they come with the membership, and besides, Academy folk are nice people)

So, it's a freebee day for all of us at the Academy and SF MOMA if you want to make a day of it.

I was down there this morning at around 10:10 (they open at 10:00am) and the line was already well-formed.

So, while 11:00 is okay with me, I do suggest earlier for better viewing at the Academy.

Let me know.

I'll look forward to seeing you again, Damon. It's been a looong time since Mt. Diablo.

Just checking in to see if everyone is still coming to the Academy of Sciences this Saturday at around 10:45-11:00am?

I'll be there at 10:45 with Guest Passes in hand. If you think if it, let me know if you're coming.

Isaac and I are planning to be there, possibly Isaac's mom too.

I've tried to explain to Isaac that we probably won't be eating too much chocolate ... : (

Confirming my attendance as well. It will be nice to meet you, Paul. And with regard to the chocolate--surely they have a gift shop? :)

What a great joy it was today to meet GeneralE, Isaac, Isaac's Mom, and faidoi and to renew friendship with mycelium. We had a wonderful time exploring the making of chocolate, and then photographing the critters who live in the tanks at the California Academy of Sciences.

Then we moved on to the S.F. Museum of Modern Art (SF MOMA) for lunch and eventually an exploration of all five floors of art and architecture.

No doubt pictures will appear soon.
